How Can I Have Remote Access To My Qolsys IQ Panel 4?

To obtain remote access to a Qolsys IQ Panel 4 you will need a monitoring plan and an app or a browser. Qolsys works closely with Alarm.com to offer a wide variety of remote capabilities. Monitoring an IQ Panel 4 through Alarm.com requires a cellular plan such as the Alarm Grid Gold Plans.

The Qolsys IQ Panel 4 is one of the premiere professional systems available today. It offers a 7" glass capacitive multi-touch touchscreen, support for PowerG long-range sensors and automation devices, LTE cellular from either AT&T or Verizon, dual-band WIFI, Z-Wave Plus and much more. When choosing an alarm system for your home or business, the Qolsys IQ Panel 4 is hard to beat.

  1. Choose a panel version. When purchasing a Qolsys IQ Panel 4, there are several things to consider. First, you'll need to determine which version of the panel you want to use. This decision should take into account which LTE cellular carrier will have the best signal in your protected location. You'll also need to decide whether the panel should support legacy RF sensors. Most IQ Panel 4 systems come with dual-SRF. That means the panel can support both PowerG and one legacy RF frequency. This is helpful when you will be replacing an existing panel that supported wireless sensors, and you don't want or need to replace those sensors. Also, each of these panels comes in either black or white.

Qolsys IQ Panel 4 Dual-SRF panels are shown below:

If you're starting from scratch, then you may want to check out our IQ Panel 4 kits on the Qolsys wireless systems page. Also worth considering are the Qolsys IQ Panel 4 PowerG Kits. These panels only support PowerG sensors and automation devices, no other legacy wireless sensors. They also only come in white. Each kit comes with two (2) PowerG door/window sensors and one PowerG motion sensor. There is an AT&T version and a Verizon version.

  2. Install your system. We have an excellent FAQ detailing how to install your Qolsys IQ Panel 4. If you haven't installed your system yet, check it out.

  3. Sign up for monitoring. If you plan to have your system monitored by Alarm Grid you can choose a monitoring plan here. Remember, Alarm.com doesn't have any WIFI-only monitoring options so you'll need to choose at least a Gold Plan (Self or Full) or higher. We also offer a Cellular Alarm Monitoring Plan.

This plan is traditional central station monitoring only, using a cellular path. There is no remote access to the panel through the Alarm.com app or website when you choose the Cellular Alarm Monitoring Plan. Any plan that includes cellular monitoring also includes WIFI or IP monitoring at no additional charge.

  4. Activate your system. When you sign up for monitoring with Alarm Grid you'll provide some information about yourself and your system. You'll be asked for the IMEI number located on/in your system. It's very important to enter this information accurately as this is what ties your system to your account with Alarm Grid and Alarm.com. See how to find your IMEI number here.

If you sign up for a Self-monitoring plan, once you complete the sign-up the information you entered will be used to create your account automatically. You'll receive an email with your Alarm.com username, which is usually your email address. Click the link within the email and complete your account setup. This will include creating your password. You will now have remote access to your Qolsys IQ Panel 4 using the Alarm.com customer app, available for free on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. You also have access through the Alarm.com webpage.

If you choose a Full plan, which comes with central station monitoring plus remote access, you'll set an appointment for a scheduled activation. Be sure the system is installed, and connected to WIFI if applicable, prior to this appointment. An activation specialist will call you at the appointment time and go through the activation process with you. Part of this process is verifying your list of zones, your verbal password, and your contact and call list information. This is the information the central station operator will use in the event of an alarm.

The activator will also help you test your system to be sure it is communicating properly. If you need a Certificate of Alarm for your homeowner's insurance, they will have you set off an alarm for each type of sensor you have. This could be fire, carbon monoxide, flood/freeze, and burglary. After every signal type has been verified, you can request a certificate on your account page in the Alarm Grid website. Once the activation is complete, you'll be ready to access your system remotely using the Alarm.com website or app.
