How Do I Change the Master Code On a Honeywell LYNX Touch?

You can change the Master Code on a Honeywell LYNX Touch by accessing the Users Menu inside Master Tools. You need the existing Master Code to enter the menu. If you do not know the Master Code, but you do know the Installer Code, then you can reset the Master Code back to its 1234 default.

All Honeywell LYNX Touch Panels follow the same process for changing the Master Code. These panels include the Honeywell L5000, Honeywell L5100, Honeywell L5200, Honeywell L5210, and Honeywell L7000. Each LYNX Touch Panel has exactly one (1) Master Code. The code cannot be delete, only changed. Alarm Grid strongly recommends changing this code for security purposes. Anyone with access to the Master Code can arm and disarm the system, and they can change any other system code, with the exception of the Installer Code.

In order to change the Master Code, you must know the existing Master Code to access the Users Menu inside of Master Tools. If you do not know the Master Code, but you do know the Installer Code, then you can use the Installer Code to reset the Master Code back to its default of 1234. More information on resetting the Master Code using the Installer Code can be found in this FAQ. If you do not know the Installer Code, or if you are locked out programming, then you can use the backdoor method to get into program and reset the Master Code. Please note that you can only perform the backdoor method if the system is disarmed. As a reference, the default Installer Code for a Honeywell LYNX Touch System is 4112.

For this FAQ, we will assume that you already know the system Master Code, and you do not need to reset the code back to its default. Complete the following steps to change the Master Code on a Honeywell LYNX Touch Panel:

1. Enter Master Tools. Start from the main screen of the LYNX Touch System. Choose Security > More > Tools > enter the current Master Code (default 1234). You will enter the Master Tools Menu.

2. Change the Master Code. Click on the Users button. Then find the Master User, and click on that field to highlight that user field. With the Master User highlighted, click the Edit button in the bottom-left. This will allow you to make changes to the Master User Slot. Click on the "User Code" field. A numeric keypad will appear so that you can enter a new code. Enter the desired four-digit code. Then press "Done" in the bottom-right corner. Then press "Save" in the bottom-right to save your changes.

3. Return to Home Screen. You can return to the home screen by pressing the button with the green house on the front of the panel. Make sure you have saved your changes before returning home. You can test the new Master Code by using it to arm and disarm.
