How Do I Check My Simon XT's Firmware Version Number?
You can check your Simon XT's Firmware Version Number by scrolling up or down from the main screen. Eventually, the "Revision Number" will be displayed. This is also known as the Firmware Version Number. You can take note of this number and determine if your system is on the latest version.
The firmware version for the Simon XT determines what type of functions and services can be used with the system. In virtually all cases, you will want the system to be on the highest firmware version possible. At the time of this writing, the highest firmware version available for the Simon XT is 1.6. However, it is very important to make sure that the system is running at least firmware version 1.3 or higher.
Firmware version 1.3 will allow the system to support an Alarm.com cellular communicator. This is crucial for getting the most out of the system. By adding one of these modules, the system can receive cellular monitoring service, support Z-Wave smart home devices and be used with the Alarm.com interactive service.
Once the system is active with Alarm.com, the user's alarm monitoring company will be able to push down firmware updates to the panel. So if the panel is running at least firmware version 1.3, then it is fairly easy to update the panel. But if the system is running 1.2 or lower, then it is very difficult to provide an update. Please note that all newly purchased Simon XT Systems will be running the latest firmware version.
If you need to check the firmware for a Simon XT complete the following steps:
1. Access the home screen. Your Simon XT System should be on its home screen by default if it is disarmed. But if it is on a different screen, you can back out to the main screen by repeatedly pressing the "Status" key. You will know that the system is on its main screen when it says "Disarmed" and displays the set time.
2. Find the firmware revision. Use the up and down arrows to scroll between available options. Look for "Revision", followed by a number. This is the firmware version of the panel. An example can be seen in the picture below:
3. Note the revision number. Take note of the firmware revision number. If it's 1.3 or higher, an Alarm.com cellular communicator can be easily added. But if it's 1.2 or lower, adding a cell module and upgrading the system will be difficult.
