How Do I Find the IMEI Number for a 2GIG Edge?
You can find the IMEI number for a 2GIG Edge by starting from the main screen of the system, clicking the 2GIG Logo in the top-right corner, choosing System Info, and locating the IMEI listing. This represents the unique IMEI number for panel's internal LTE cellular communicator.
The IMEI number a unique code that you find on any device that uses cellular communication. In the case of the 2GIG Edge Alarm System, there is an LTE cellular communicator built inside. The system uses this module to connect with the Alarm.com servers for alarm monitoring service. This module is hard-built into the system, and it cannot be swapped out. In other words, damaging the cellular communicator for the 2GIG Edge means that the entire alarm panel will need to be replaced. In order to activate the system for monitoring service, your monitoring provider will need to know the IMEI number of this internal communicator. By far the easiest way to find the system's IMEI number is to locate it in the System Information Menu you can access in a matter of seconds.
Depending on the 2GIG Edge Panel you are working with, the internal cellular communicator is either an AT&T LTE model or a Verizon LTE model. The decision between AT&T and Verizon is made when you buy the panel. Since the internal communicator cannot be replaced, there is no way to "change your mind", short of swapping the panel completely. Realistically speaking, most people across the United States will get good coverage from either AT&T LTE or Verizon LTE. That being said, if you are in a more rural area, or if you know from prior experience that one network tends to demonstrate better reliability, then the decision might prove to be more important. You may want to check coverage maps from AT&T and Verizon if you are unsure of which network will work better in your area. If you don't think that either network will work well in your area, then you can always boost cell signals with an amplifier.
Remember that the 2GIG Edge also has an internal WIFI card. It provides an additional pathway for communicating with the Alarm.com servers for monitoring. Don't forget though that Alarm.com requires active cellular communication for use with their platform. That means that you cannot set your 2GIG Edge on internet protocol (IP) only to try and save money on monitoring costs. You must activate the system on a full cellular monitoring plan, such as an Alarm Grid Gold or Platinum Plan. Fortunately, a cellular monitoring plan will almost always also include IP monitoring at no extra charge. With cellular and IP together, your Edge will be a dual-path system with ultra-reliable connectivity!
First though, you must activate your 2GIG Edge for alarm monitoring service. You will need the system's IMEI number as part of the activation. Complete the following steps to find the IMEI number for your 2GIG Edge:
1. Click the 2GIG Logo. Begin from the main screen of your 2GIG Edge. Click the 2GIG logo in the upper-right corner. This will take you to a sub-menu with System Info. No code is needed to access this menu.
2. Click on System Info. Press the System Info button. You will enter into the System Information Menu. This is where you can find the IMEI number for your 2GIG Edge Alarm System. Again, no code is required.
3. Find the IMEI Number. The IMEI number should be displayed in the System Info Menu. It is the fifth (5th) option from the top. Note down the number. You may want to write it down or take a picture of it. Although the IMEI number is very easy to access, you may be unable to access it if the panel ever becomes damaged or stolen. Having the IMEI number in a second location, while probably never needed, might be important in an emergency!
4. Return to Home Screen. Press the very small picture of the house in the bottom-right corner of the screen to return home. You can return to view your system's IMEI number again by repeating the steps above!
