How Do I Include the Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat with a Z-Wave Controller?
You can include the Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat with a Z-Wave controller by putting the the Z-Wave controller into its Z-Wave inclusion mode and activating the inclusion function on the T6 Z-Wave Thermostat. The pairing process will complete once the controller recognizes the device.
The Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat is a smart thermostat that will work with nearly any Z-Wave controller. It offers Z-Wave Plus capabilities. This means that the device will offer extended range and greater reliability overall when it is paired with a Z-Wave Plus controller. However, it can also be used with a classic Z-Wave controller to receive the standard range of a regular Z-Wave device.
After powering up the Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat for the first time, a user will be asked if they want to include the device into a Z-Wave network. If you choose "Yes", you can go ahead and follow much of the process outlined below. If you choose "No", you can always set the thermostat up with a Z-Wave network at a later later. Please note that you can still use the T6 Thermostat as a standard programmable thermostat without including it to a Z-Wave network.
Note: If you pair the T6 Thermostat with a system that uses an interactive automation platform like TC2 or ADC, then you will no longer be able to set permanent holds locally at the thermostat.
The steps below assume that the user selected "No" when asked if they wanted to include the device with a Z-Wave network and they are now going back to do it later. Complete the following steps to pair the Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat with a Z-Wave controller:
1. Exclude the T6. It is always recommended that a user excludes a device from the Z-Wave network before attempting to pair it with a new Z-Wave controller. This can help the pairing process go more smoothly. Start from the main screen of the Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat. Press the Menu button at the bottom of the screen. Then scroll right or left until you find the Z-Wave Setup option. Press the select button to continue. Then find the option that asks the user to "put the controller into its pairing mode". Press the Select button to continue. This will tell the T6 to begin communicating with Z-Wave controllers.
Next, activate the exclusion function on the Z-Wave controller. This process will vary depending upon different types of Z-Wave controllers. Follow the steps in its instruction manual to put the controller into exclusion mode. Please note that you might need to bring the Z-Wave controller close to the Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat to complete the exclusion process. Once the Z-Wave controller recognizes the Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat, it will say that a device has been excluded from the network. On the T6, it will say that the device "failed to include". This is okay, as you were excluding it from the network, not including it. Press the Select button on the T6 to continue.
2. Include the T6. Start by putting the T6 into its inclusion mode, using the same process that was completed in the first part of Step 1. Then activate the inclusion function on the Z-Wave controller. Check the manual for the Z-Wave controller for steps on how to put the device into its inclusion mode. Again, you may need to bring the Z-Wave controller close to the T6 to complete the pairing process. Once the Z-Wave controller recognizes the T6, it will say that a device has been added to the network. The T6 will say that it has been included into the network. You can then back out to the main menu of the thermostat.
3. Test the T6. Try using your Z-Wave controller to operate your T6 Thermostat. If you can successfully adjust the temperature and the settings from the Z-Wave controller, then the T6 has been successfully paired. Please note it might take a brief moment for any command from the Z-Wave controller to reach the T6 Thermostat.
