How Do I Pair a Z-Wave Device to the 2GIG GC2e?
You can pair a Z-Wave device to the 2GIG GC2e by first clearing the device from the network, and then putting the panel into its inclusion mode and activating the inclusion function on the Z-Wave device. This will successfully pair the Z-Wave device with the 2GIG GC2e Security System.
Inside every 2GIG GC2e is a Z-Wave Plus controller. This allows you to pair classic Z-Wave and Z-Wave Plus automation devices, including Z-Wave lights, door locks, thermostats, and more. Devices can be controlled locally at the panel. And if the system is monitored and set up with Alarm.com, then you can control it remotely from a web browser or mobile app. You will also be able to include the device with Alarm.com smart scenes for automatic activation based on a set schedule or with predetermined system events.
Complete the following steps to pair a Z-Wave device with the 2GIG GC2e:
1. Enter panel exclusion mode. Before adding a Z-Wave device, it is usually a good idea to clear it from the network first. This will wipe out any residual Z-Wave data so that a successful pairing can be made. Even brand-new Z-Wave devices may have residual Z-Wave data, so clearing first is usually a good idea. Please note that some Z-Wave devices are smart enough to know whether they are paired with a network or not. For those devices, performing an exclusion before the device is paired with a network may be impossible. But usually, an initial exclusion is recommended.
Start from the main screen of the 2GIG GC2e. Choose the Services option, followed by Z-Wave. Then click the wrench icon in the bottom-right corner. Enter the Installer Code for the system. The default Installer Code is 1561. This will take you to the Z-Wave Toolbox. Choose Remove Devices. This will put the GC2e into its exclusion mode.
2. Clear the device. Activate the exclusion function on your Z-Wave device. Many Z-Wave devices use the same function for exclusion that they use for inclusion. Often, there is a button on the Z-Wave device itself. Many Z-Wave locks require you to enter a specific code. It is recommended that you refer to the manual for your Z-Wave device for more information on inclusion/exclusion. Once the exclusion function is activated, you should get a message stating that a device has been removed from the network. Choose OK in the bottom-right corner. Then press Back in the bottom-left corner.
3. Pair the device. Click the Add Devices button within the Z-Wave Toolbox. Then activate the inclusion function on the Z-Wave device. This may be the same input or command that you used when clearing the device from the network. You should get notification that the device has been added.
4. Return home. Press the Back button in the bottom-left. Press the button on the right on the front of the panel with the blue square to return home. Any changes you made will be automatically saved.
