How Do I Use the Microphone on the IPCAM-WO?
There is no microphone you can use on the IPCAM-WO. The device does not include a built-in microphone, and there is no way to add a microphone to the device. This makes it impossible to record audio using the device. However, some other Total Connect Cameras are capable of capturing audio.
The IPCAM-WO is an outdoor camera used with Honeywell's Total Connect service. It is one of the older Honeywell Legacy Cameras. This means that it must be activated by the user's alarm monitoring company. This is done by connecting the camera to the network and then providing the device's 12-digit MAC address to the monitoring company. The monitoring company will activate the device on the user's behalf.
After activating the camera, the user can then view its live feed from their Total Connect account. The camera can initiate recording whenever it senses motion using its built-in motion detector. Once this occurs, the camera will capture a 10 second video clip. A clip can be saved on Total Connect's cloud server for 7 days. The newer Total Connect HD cameras allow storage of video in the cloud for 30 days. A user can download any clip and permanently save it if they desire.
Unfortunately, a major limitation of the IPCAM-WO is that it does not include a built-in microphone. It also does not have an input for supporting an external microphone. This makes it impossible for the device to record audio. It is strictly a video recording device. If a user needs to record audio using their Total Connect Camera, then they must choose a different camera.
If you require an outdoor camera that can record audio, we suggest looking for other cameras to see if they can fulfill your needs. Remember, any microphone for a Total Connect Camera will need to first be enabled from Total Connect before it will function. You should then test the microphone to ensure that it is functioning properly.
Note: The Total Connect 2.0 Legacy IP Cameras like the IPCAM-WO can only be used if they were online at the time when Resideo pushed down an OTA update to make them compatible with an updated TC2 platform. Any legacy camera that was not online to receive this update can no longer be used. You must be very careful when purchasing used legacy TC2 IP Cameras, as many people will try to pass off bricked models on unsuspecting buyers. Please read this FAQ for more information.
