How does dual path monitoring work with an L5200?
The Honeywell L5200 LYNX Touch supports dual path monitoring in a few different ways. The most popular by far is using the Honeywell L5100-WIFI module as a primary communication path and the Honeywell GSMVLP5-4G cellular communicator as the secondary path. Check out the Honeywell L5200PK-WIFI-4G and the L5200PK10-WIFI-4G dual path kits.
This is the most reliable and versatile communication setup since both paths support Total Connect 2.0 and both units offer the fastest speeds of transmission. You will utilized the faster speeds of the internet when possible. Then if the internet ever drops out due to AC loss at the router and/or modem, line cuts, IP conflicts, etc. the GSM unit will pick up after 2 attempts (approx. 30 seconds).
Another form of dual path monitoring is using a phone line as a backup secondary path with either WIFI or cellular. This is far less versatile being that a phone line can be cut, does not support Total Connect, and transmits signals much slower.
**The Honeywell ILP5 wired internet communicator can not be used in tandem with the the GSMVLP5-4G. This is not a software issue. They share the same port on the circuit board so there is no way to go dual path using wired ethernet with cellular backup. Furthermore, the L5100-WIFI is just as fast and reliable as the ILP5. In fact, the ILP5 results in higher percentages of tech support calls; generally due to wiring issues. **
