How Many Wireless Zones Are On a Qolsys IQ Panel 2?
There are 128 wireless zones on a Qolsys IQ Panel 2. Each wireless sensor that is used with the system will use at least one of these zones. The type of wireless sensors that are supported will depend on the version of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2. All versions support up to 128 wireless zones.
An alarm system accepts incoming signals from wireless sensors using a wireless receiver. For wireless all-in-one alarm systems, like the Qolsys IQ Panel 2, there is typically a wireless receiver built right into the panel. Each wireless receiver accepts signals at a particular wireless frequency. The type of sensors that can be used with a particular panel depends upon the wireless receiver that is installed.
Each of these sensors will require at least one zone on the system. Some sensors may require multiple zones in order to perform multiple functions. For example, a sensor might use one zone to function as a door and window contact. But at the same time, it might be programmed to a second zone to function as a wireless transmitter.
For the Qolsys IQ Panel 2, there is support for a maximum of 128 different zones. The standard version of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 has an integrated wireless receiver that accepts signals at a frequency of 319.5 MHz. This will allow Qolsys and Interlogix/GE Sensors to be used with the system. Only 319.5 MHz wireless sensors can be used with standard IQ Panel 2.
However, Qolsys discontinued the original Qolsys IQ Panel 2 and replaced it with the newer Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus System. There are three (3) versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. There is a 319.5 MHz version of the IQ Panel 2 Plus that can support the same Qolsys and Interlogix/GE Sensors as the original IQ Panel 2. There is a 345 MHz version of the IQ Panel 2 Plus that can support legacy Honeywell and 2GIG Sensors. And there is a 433 MHz version of the IQ Panel 2 Plus that can support legacy DSC Sensors.
A collective trait of all versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus is that they can all support DSC PowerG Sensors. These sensors are very highly regarded in the security industry for their impressive wireless open-air range of up to 2,000 feet away from the IQ Panel 2 Plus, as well as their military-grade 128-bit AES encryption that prevents wireless hacking and takeover attempts. Please note that PowerG Sensors cannot be used with the original non-Plus Qolsys IQ Panel 2 System.
But regardless of which version of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 you have, a maximum of 128 wireless zones can be used at any given time. Whether you have an original Qolsys IQ Panel 2 or any of the newer Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus models, the system can support a maximum of 128 wireless zones. That applies to all Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Systems. The version of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 only determines which type of wireless sensors the system can support. It does not determine how many wireless sensors the system can support. That figure is always a maximum of 128 wireless zones, no matter which version of the IQ Panel 2 you are using.
