How Many Z-Wave Devices are Supported on the 2GIG GC2/GC2e?
A maximum of 232 unique Z-Wave devices are supported on the 2GIG GC2 and GC2e. Attempting to add additional Z-Wave devices beyond this 232 device limit will fail. Furthermore, a maximum of only 122 unique Z-Wave devices can be pushed from a 2GIG GC2 or GC2e to the Alarm.com platform.
Every 2GIG GC2 and GC2e System has an integrated Z-Wave controller that allows a user to establish an automation network of smart devices. These devices include peripherals such as smart lights, smart door locks, smart thermostats, and more. These devices can be controlled directly from the GC2 or GC2e Panel. There are no sub-limits for specific types of Z-Wave devices that can be enrolled with a GC2 or GC2e. The only restriction here is the overall limit of 232 Z-Wave devices.
Additionally, if the system is monitored and set up with Alarm.com service, then a user can control their programmed devices remotely from that platform as well. This platform can be conveniently accessed using a web browser or a mobile app on a smart device. Using this platform will also allow the user to create Alarm.com smart scenes. This involves having a selection of multiple Z-Wave devices activate automatically based on a set schedule or with predetermined system events.
When a Z-Wave device is paired with a 2GIG GC2 or GC2e System that is associated with Alarm.com, the device will be automatically pushed to the Alarm.com servers once information is refreshed from the panel. However, the user should keep in mind that there is a limit to the number of Z-Wave devices that can be pushed to the Alarm.com servers. A maximum of 122 unique Z-Wave devices can be pushed from an Alarm.com Security System to a user's Alarm.com account.
When you add a 123rd Z-Wave device, or any additional Z-Wave device beyond the 122 device limit, it will only be made available on the panel for local operation and control. It will not be pushed over to the Alarm.com servers for remote operation and inclusion with Alarm.com smart scenes. This is very important to keep in mind if you are using more than 122 Z-Wave devices with a GC2 or GC2e that has been set up with Alarm.com. More information on this subject can be found in this FAQ.
If you have a new Z-Wave device that you want to use with Alarm.com, and you have 122 existing Z-Wave devices already pushed to your Alarm.com account from a single GC2 or GC2e, then you must clear an existing device from the Z-Wave network. Once you have 121 or fewer Z-Wave devices paired with your GC2 or GC2e, you can then enroll the new Z-Wave device with your system. This will ensure that the new device can be pushed to Alarm.com.
From there, allow Alarm.com to refresh the information from your panel so that all 122 Z-wave devices on your network are pushed to the Alarm.com servers. You can add additional Z-Wave devices all the way up to the 232 total Z-Wave device limit for the panel as needed. Just realize that Z-Wave devices numbered 123 thru 232 will only be available for local panel control. They will not be pushed over to Alarm.com for remote operation and inclusion with smart scenes.
