Is a 2Gig GoControl compatible with Honeywell sensors?
The 2GIG GoControl is a self-contained wireless security system that supports any Honeywell 5800 series wireless sensor. This is a wide ranging line of security, environmental, and life safety devices. Although 2GIG offers their own line of wireless sensors, the Honeywell collection is a bit more versatile and advanced. For example, there are several surface mount door contacts made by Honeywell including and not limited to the 5811, 5820L, 5814 and 5800MINI. They each have their own unique specialty which serves to meet the custom needs of each install. Honeywell also offers advanced recessed door contacts.
The 2GIG DW20R is a recessed door contact similar to the Honeywell 5818MNL. What makes them similar is their long, cylindrical shape and reed switch design. They both need a magnet to be drilled into the door or window itself in order for the reed switch to detect when the door/window is open or closed. There are situations where drilling into the door is not ideal (i.e. voiding warranty on the door or steel doors that destroy drill bits). For situations like this Honeywell offers the 5800RPS which uses a rolling plunger instead of a magnet. The plunger is depressed when the door is closed and extended when opened. The 5822T tilt sensor is another unique item that offers garage overhead door protection without a magnet.
The metal rails on traditional overhead doors can sometimes interfere with standard contacts on overhead doors. Furthermore, garage environments can fluctuate in temperature and humidity. The 5822T is designed to withstand this environment with a temperature range of 0 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit. Another rugged sensor is the 5816OD since it offers a fully weatherproof (NEMA4X water protection) housing that allows you to protect doors and gates in any environment. This sensor will function properly in temperatures ranging from -40 to 150 degrees fahrenheit. Nearly all Honeywell sensors have a max RF range of 200 nominal feet.
