Is SmartThings Compatible with the Honeywell Lyric Security System?
Yes, SmartThings is compatible with the Honeywell Lyric Security System. The Lyric Alarm Panel can be used with a Samsung SmartThings Hub by setting it up as a secondary Z-Wave controller. This will push any Z-Wave smart home device that is paired with SmartThings to the Lyric Controller.
The advantage to setting up the Lyric as a secondary Z-Wave controller with SmartThings is that a user will be able to control a Z-Wave device that is paired with the SmartThings App through both the Lyric System and through Total Connect 2.0 if that service has been set up. If the system is set up for use with Total Connect 2.0, then smart scenes must be created through either SmartThings or through the TC2 platform. If the system is not using TC2, then smart scenes can be created through SmartThings or through the panel. In either case, the Lyric Controller will become a convenient spot for controlling your Z-Wave devices that were previously only used with SmartThings.
A SmartThings Hub supports Z-Wave Plus technology. This means that Z-Wave Plus devices can utilize their maximum range and battery life when they are paired with that hub. But a Lyric Controller does not support Z-Wave Plus. Although Z-Wave Plus devices can be paired with the Lyric, they will only have the range and battery life of a classic Z-Wave device when used in this way. In other words, if you want a Z-Wave Plus device to utilize its maximum potential range and battery life, you should pair it with the SmartThings Hub. Even when the device is pushed over to the Lyric, it will retain the Z-Wave Plus capabilities. This is an advantage of having the Lyric set up as a secondary Z-Wave controller.
Setting up the Lyric as a secondary Z-Wave controller for SmartThings is a fairly simple process. Both the Lyric and the SmartThings Hub should be within 25 feet of each other during pairing. Open the SmartThings App, and press "+ Add a Thing". Then, starting from the main screen of the Lyric, choose Automation > down arrow > Tools > Advanced Tools > Master or Installer Code (defaults are 1234 and 4112 respectively) > Learn. The Lyric System should be recognized by the SmartThings Controller, and any devices that are paired with SmartThings should be pushed over to the Lyric Controller automatically.
