Is the Honeywell 5800C2W a 2G or 4G Communicator?
The Honeywell 5800C2W is neither a 2G communicator, nor a 4G communicator. The Honeywell 5800C2W is a wired to wireless converter that lets you use hardwired sensors with a system that supports the 345 MHz frequency. It is not a communicator. It does not use 2G or 4G cellular communication.
If you are upgrading to a wireless system from a wired system, then you might consider using a wired to wireless converter. This is a device that will make your existing hardwired sensors compatible with your new system. By doing this, you can save a huge amount of money by not having to purchase all-new sensors. The hardwired sensors will connect with the wired to wireless converter. The converter will then transmit wireless signals to the panel so that the sensors can communicate with the system. The panel will see all of the wired sensors as wireless sensors.
A wired to wireless converter uses wireless communication to "speak" with the panel. But that does not make the converter module a "communicator". An alarm monitoring communicator is the accessory a system uses to send and receive signals. This is an essential function of alarm monitoring service. The panel needs to be able to report out any alarm events that occur so that the central station and/or the end user is alerted to any intrusion, life-safety, or medical emergencies. The panel must be able to receive signals so that the end user can control the system remotely using an interactive monitoring platform like Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com.
A cellular communicator will connect with a cellular network to send and receive signals. 2G and 4G represent some of the older cellular networks that were once widely used for alarm monitoring service. Today, most alarm systems that use cellular connectivity will connect with an LTE network. We strongly recommend getting an LTE communicator for your alarm system if you do not already have one. With an LTE communicator, you will receive the most reliable connectivity possible for your alarm system.
Remember, the 5800C2W is not a communicator. It is a wired to wireless converter. You use it to bring over hardwired sensors to a wireless system. It works with panels that support the 345 MHz wireless frequency. Compatible systems include the Resideo Lyric Alarm System, the LYNX Touch Systems, the 2GIG Systems, and the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus with 345 MHz Daughtercard.
