Is There a Tilt Sensor Compatible w/ Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5?
Yes, there is a tilt sensor compatible with the Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5. Any wireless tilt sensor that communicates at a frequency of 319.5 MHz can be used with these panels. Two popular tilt sensors that operate at this frequency are the Interlogix TX-E401 and the Qolsys IQ Tilt-S.
A tilt sensor allows an alarm system to know when a garage door has been opened or closed. This type of sensor works by recognizing when it has experienced a change in its positioned angle. To use this sensor, it is applied to the top of a garage door from the inside. When the garage door is closed, the sensor will remain at a vertical position of 90-degrees. Once the garage door is opened, the sensor will become tilted to a horizontal position of 45-degrees. This change in positioning will cause the sensor to activate.
Upon activation, the sensor will send a signal to the alarm system to let it know that the garage door has been opened. The system will then perform the pre-determined response assigned for that sensor. This is determined by the Sensor Group assigned to the device. For a garage door, assigning a Sensor Group of 10 for "Entry/Exit" is usually appropriate. However, a different Sensor Group can be assigned to the device if desired.
A wireless tilt sensor must communicate at a wireless frequency of 319.5 MHz in order to interface with a Simon XTi or XTi-5 System. Some popular wireless tilt sensors that operate at this frequency include the Interlogix TX-E401 and the Qolsys IQ Tilt-S. The TX-E401 may also be sold as the GE TX-E401. Both names refer to the same wireless tilt sensor. For a more detailed list of sensors that operate at the 319.5 MHz frequency, please review the IQ Panel Sensor Compatibility List. Any non-encrypted 319.5 MHz sensor that works with the Qolsys IQ Panel will also work with both the Simon XTi and XTi-5 Alarm Systems.
