What Does an Alarm.com Video Plan Include?
An Alarm.com Video Plan includes the ability to use Alarm.com Security Cameras and store video clips on the Alarm.com Platform. You can access Alarm.com through either the website or mobile app at any time to view your stored video clips. You can download and save clips for permanent use.
In order to use Alarm.com Cameras, you will need either a Platinum Level monitoring plan from Alarm Grid, or an Alarm Grid Video-Only Plan. By default, an Alarm.com Video Plan will support up to four (4) cameras, and have a monthly and total clip storage limit of 1,000 clips. Upon request, we can upgrade a customer's account to include advanced video analytics and increase their clip storage limit to 3,000 clips. Extra fees may be required to do this.
If a customer wants to use additional cameras or increase their clip storage limits, then we can apply one or more video expansion packs to their account. Each video expansion pack will allow for the use of four (4) additional cameras and increase the customer's clip storage limits by 5,000 clips. Again, video expansion packs are only applied by special request, and additional fees may be required.
If you plan to use Alarm.com for video monitoring, then it is very important to understand how their clip storage limits work. There are both monthly and total clip storage limits, and they are always equal in number on a customer's ADC account. These limits apply across all Alarm.com Cameras on the user's account. Remember, you can increase these limits upon request, but extra fees may be required.
The monthly clip limit refers to how many new clips are saved to the Alarm.com Servers each month. Once you reach the monthly clip limit, no new clips will be saved and stored to Alarm.com. This is true even if you delete previously saved video clips from the same month. Once you reach the monthly clip limit, no new clips will be saved. The only way to work around this and save new clips for that month is to increase your monthly clip limit.
You must also keep your total clip storage limit in mind. The total clip storage limit refers to your total number of clips stored on the Alarm.com Servers across any time period. If you reach your total clip storage limit, then old clips will be deleted to make room for new ones. However, you can "protect" stored clips to prevent them from being deleted. So if your clip limit is 1,000, then when your camera tries to store a 1,001st clip, then the oldest "unprotected" clip will be deleted to make room for the new clip. If you fill your total clip limit with protected clips, then no new clips will be stored. As long as you do not exceed the clip limit, then video clips can technically be stored indefinitely.
