What is a Z-Wave Thermostat?
A Z-Wave thermostat is any smart programmable thermostat that communicates across a Z-Wave network. These ingenious devices can be set up with rules and scenes to automatically adjust the temperature inside a building based on a preset schedule or with predetermined system events.
Like any smart thermostat, a Z-Wave thermostat can be tied-in with a smart home setup. When used with an alarm system, a Z-Wave thermostat can be controlled directly from the panel or through an interactive service like Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com. By using one of these services, it is possible to control a Z-Wave thermostat remotely using a mobile app. Another perk to these devices is that they can be operated automatically based on a schedule or with certain system events. Z-Wave thermostats can also be operated using voice commands sent through a smart assistant, like Apple HomeKit, Google Home or Amazon Alexa.
Not only can a Z-Wave thermostat make one's life more convenient, it can also help a user save money. For example, if a user is away from their home and they realize they forgot to turn off their Z-Wave thermostat, they can simply shut it off remotely to conserve energy. Or a user can set up their Z-Wave thermostat so that it starts cooling or heating their house as soon as they return home and disarm their security system. A user could also have their Z-Wave thermostat automatically shut off as soon as they set their system to arm away and leave for the day. It is even possible to have a Z-Wave thermostat begin heating or cooling upon activating a sensor by opening a door or walking into a room.
While there are many Z-Wave thermostats on the market today, we are particularly big fans of the Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermostat. This device is easy to use, and it can be installed without using a common "C" wire. Instead, it operate strictly on battery power if desired. This makes it extremely easy to install, even for DIY users. It is also compatible with any alarm system with a built-in Z-Wave controller. This includes alarm systems that are manufactured by companies other than Honeywell. Overall, we believe that the Honeywell T6 Thermostat is currently the best Z-Wave thermostat available.
