According to American Family Insurance, the company offers discounts in homeowner's insurance based on the types of protection that the alarm system provides. American Family Insurance offers a 5% discount for burglary coverage, as well as an additional 5% for fire coverage. This means that a homeowner can receive up to a 10% discount on their insurance premium based upon their alarm system alone.
American Family Insurance also offers 5% home insurance discounts for having an active sprinkler system and for living in a gated community. As a result, a homeowner can potentially receive up to a 20% discount on their home insurance premium. Keep in mind that these insurance discounts may vary between different locations. At the present time, American Family Insurance only provides coverage in 19 states.
In order to qualify for the 5% burglary discount, the homeowner must have a UL-listed burglary setup. This means maintaining sufficient motions, door and window contacts and glass breaks that are compliant with UL standards. The system must also be synced with a UL-listed central monitoring station. In other words, self-monitored customers cannot receive this discount.
To qualify for the 5% fire discount, the homeowner must have a UL-listed setup that protects agains life-threatening hazards. This includes both fire and carbon monoxide. The homeowner must have sufficient smoke and heat detectors and carbon monoxide detectors that are compliant with UL standards. The alarm system will also need to be synced with a UL-listed central monitoring station. This means that self-monitored customers cannot receive this type of discount from AmFam.
