What is the Best Long-Range, Wireless Indoor Motion Sensor?
The best long-range, wireless indoor motion sensor is the Honeywell 5800PIR-COM. The device is designed for commercial applications, and it features a larger detection range than most residential motion sensors. A user can also adjust its detection area by using its included curtain lens.
By default, the 5800PIR-COM offers a detection range of 60 by 80 feet. However, this range can be adjusted to cover a longer, more narrow area of 100 by 20 feet by using the long-range curtain lens that comes included with the device. This makes the 5800PIR-COM an outstanding choice for long, indoor areas that require protection. By comparison, the 5800PIR-RES for residential applications only offers a detection range of 35 by 40 feet. Simply put, there is no matching the long-range detection offered by the 5800PIR-COM.
It is also possible to adjust the sensitivity of the 5800PIR-COM by programming the device to a different loop number. Loop 1 will provide low sensitivity, which is ideal for preventing false alarms. Meanwhile, Loop 2 features high sensitivity, which is good for certain indoor areas where absolutely no motion should be present. There is also a third loop that allows the device to be used as a temperature sensor for detecting freezing temperatures.
A great aspect of the 5800PIR-COM is that it can be used in virtually any indoor environment, and it will operate in temperatures ranging from -4 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit. Also included is a built-in look-down mirror that provides detection directly below the sensor. This means that the sensor can be placed directly above a door in order to immediately detect anyone who enters into a room. If downward detection is not needed, the look-down mirror can be detached from the device.
The 5800PIR-COM is readily compatible with any Honeywell system that can receive RF signals, as well as any 2GIG panel, including the 2GIG GC3 and the 2GIG GC2.
