What is the Range on a 2GIG Security System?
The range on a 2GIG Security System depends on the wireless sensors that are being used. Both the 2GIG GC2 and 2GIG GC3 primarily support 345 MHz wireless sensors. The 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors offer a range of 350 feet in open air. But this range can be reduced by the presence of obstacles.
Wireless sensors work by sending out RF signals. These signals are accepted by a wireless receiver that is used with the panel. The 2GIG GC2 and GC3 Systems both have an integrated wireless receiver that allows them to support 345 MHz wireless sensors. Whenever a programmed sensor is activated, it will send an a 345 MHz signal to the panel and let it know about the situation.
However, these signals cannot travel indefinitely. They have range limits that a user should keep in mind when setting up their sensors. The exact range distance depends on the type of sensors that are being used. Most 2GIG users will purchase 2GIG Sensors for their system. These sensors have a maximum wireless signal range of about 350 feet in open air. 2GIG also offers the 2GIG RPTR1-345, a wireless repeater that will effectively double the signal range. This will allow the sensors to be used from a maximum distance of 700 feet away from the system.
In addition to 2GIG Sensors, the 2GIG Systems can also support Honeywell 5800 Series 345 MHz Wireless Sensors. Most of these sensors have a signal range of 200 feet when used in open air. However, this exact range can vary between different 5800 Series Sensors. Honeywell also offers their own version of a wireless repeater, the Honeywell 5800RP. This will also double the range of the sensor so that it can be used from up to 400 feet away.
Keep in mind that these are only the maximum recommended distances for the sensors. The sensors may not work from these distances if there are many obstacles present. Obstacles can include things like walls and the presence of large metal objects. If obstacles are present, the maximum range will likely be reduced.
