What is the VERSA-GE Sensor?
The VERSA-GE is a wireless door and window contact sensor that communicates at a frequency of 319.5 MHz. This makes the sensor compatible with the 319.5 MHz Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, the original IQ Panel 2, the Simon Series Panels from Interlogix and GE, and other 319.5 MHz security systems.
VERSA Sensors are often included in bundled non-encrypted systems kits sold by Alarm Grid. We do this to keep the costs our customers pay as low as possible, while still providing them with a top-notch product that can last for many years. Despite being a third party product, the VERSA Sensors work very well, and they are extremely easy for DIY users to install and program. They are also neatly compact, and they almost vanish when installed on a white door or window frame. We recommend these sensors for anyone looking for a great door and window sensor.
There are actually three (3) different types of VERSA Sensors. The VERSA-GE is just one of these types. Each type communicates at a different wireless frequency. But these sensors do not differ at all in terms of appearance. These sensors are actually based off of the Honeywell 5800MINI, which shares the same appearance. You only want to get the VERSA-GE if you have a 319.5 MHz system that will support the sensor. Otherwise, get one of the other VERSA Sensors or the Honeywell 5800MINI. It really depends on which type of security system you are using.
Although the VERSA Sensors and the 5800MINI all appear the same on the outside, they all have different colored inner circuit boards. You can identify the VERSA-GE with its blue inner circuit board. You can see it at the top of this FAQ. For power, the VERSA-GE uses a single lithium 3V CR2032 coin battery. The battery will need to be replaced after about five (5) years of typical use. The dimensions for the VERSA-GE are 2.2."L x 1"W x 0.3"D. The magnet should be within a half inch of the sensor when the door or window is closed.
