Monitoring your home for carbon monoxide is extremely important. An outbreak of CO gas can occur due to a buildup of car fumes or because of a faulty cooking or heating appliance. Outbreaks are more common in the winter months when heaters are used more frequently. But they can occur at any time of year. You will want to be notified as quickly as possible if a carbon monoxide outbreak occurs in your home. Many lives are saved every years thanks to the proper installation and maintenance of these devices.

Like most Honeywell sensors, the carbon monoxide sensors from Honeywell are designed for use with Honeywell Security Systems. Honeywell offers legacy sensors from their 5800 Series that operate at 345 MHz. These will work with nearly any Honeywell or 2GIG System with a functional wireless receiver. Meanwhile, Honeywell also offers SiX Series Sensors that are designed exclusively for the Lyric Security System. You should know what equipment you have and which sensors are compatible before making any purchase.

With that in mind, let's take a look at some of the carbon monoxide sensors from Honeywell. A very simple standalone option is the Honeywell 5800CO. This a device from the Honeywell 5800 Series that operates at 345 MHz. It offers excellent versatility when pairing with security systems. The device is designed to detect carbon monoxide gas, and it offers no additional function.

Another option is the Honeywell 5800COMBO. Just like the 5800CO, the 5800COMBO is also part of the legendary Honeywell 5800 Series. It has the exact same compatibilities as the 5800CO. The difference is that the 5800COMBO is a combination life-safety device that adds smoke and heat detection in addition to CO detection. This is a great sensor to purchase if you want fire and CO protection in one convenient sensor.

Finally, we would like to mention the Honeywell SiXCOMBO. This device is comparable to the 5800COMBO, in that it is a combination life-safety device that monitors for smoke, high heat and carbon monoxide gas. The difference between the SiXCOMBO and the 5800COMBO is that the SiXCOMBO does not operate at 345 MHz. Instead, it sends signals at an encrypted 2.4 GHz frequency that is only compatible with the Honeywell Lyric Controller and the upcoming Resideo ProSeries Panel. The SiXCOMBO will not work with the older LYNX Touch or VISTA Series Systems. But an advantage of the SiXCOMBO is that it offers 128-bit AES wireless encryption for added security.
