Which Battery Packs are Compatible with the Honeywell L5200?
There are three battery packs that are compatible with the Honeywell L5200. These battery packs are the Honeywell LYNXRCHKIT-SC, the Honeywell LYNXRCHKIT-HC and the Honeywell LYNXRCHKIT-SHA. All three battery packs operate in the same manner, but their maximum charge capacities differ.
The backup battery is a very important, but often overlooked, component of an alarm system. Normally, a panel stays powered on using a plug-in transformer. But if the power goes out, the system will need an alternative power source. That is where a backup battery comes into play. The backup battery will keep the system running so that it can report out if a burglary or fire occurs. If a user wants to ensure that their home is always protected, then they will definitely want to have a reliable backup battery installed.
Honeywell L5200 owners have three backup batteries to choose from. Each backup battery plugs into the system's board, and each battery lasts approximately 3 to 5 years. These batteries differ in the maximum charge they will store and how long they can keep the system running. The LYNXRCHKIT-SC is capable of keeping the L5200 System running for up to 4 hours. The LYNXRCHKIT-HC is capable of keeping the L5200 System running for several more hours. And the LYNXRCHKIT-SHA is capable of keeping the system running for up to 24 hours. These batteries are also all compatible with the other Honeywell LYNX Touch Series Alarm Systems.
The backup battery works by continuously storing a charge while the system is running on AC power. If the electricity goes out, the backup battery will be ready to provide power. But batteries do not last forever, and the accessory will slowly lose its ability to store a charge over time. After about 3 to 5 years, the battery will need to be replaced with a new one. Once this happens, a low battery warning will appear on the screen. The user can confirm that the battery is in need of replacing by waiting for at least 24 hours for the message to disappear while the system is running on transformer power. This will give the battery a chance to recharge. If it doesn't, then it's time to get a new battery.
