Which Smoke Detectors are Apple HomeKit Compatible?
Most Honeywell Smoke Detectors are Apple HomeKit compatible. This is because they can connect with the Lyric System. The Lyric is compatible with Apple HomeKit, and any smoke detector that is set up with the system will be able to notify the user through HomeKit. But this feature is limited.
Apple HomeKit is an application that allows users to use voice commands sent through the SIRI Voice Assistant to control Z-Wave smart home devices. The Honeywell Lyric Controller is compatible with Apple HomeKit, and users can send voice commands through SIRI to control the system. This includes arming and disarming the Lyric, checking the status of sensors and operating Z-Wave devices. Users can also receive notifications about their system through HomeKit.
When a life-safety device is activated on the Honeywell Lyric Security System, a notification will be sent through Apple HomeKit to alert the user. However, Zone Type and the specific Zone will not be provided. In other words, the user will know that something is wrong due to the generic Lyric System Alert. But they won't know that a smoke detector has been activated, and they won't know which sensor is affected. HomeKit will only provide detailed information for certain types of security zones.
Fortunately, there is a way for a user to receive detailed and informative mobile alerts regarding any Honeywell Smoke Detector that has been activated. This is through the Total Connect 2.0 platform. Total Connect 2.0 is an interactive service that is designed for use with Honeywell Systems, including the Lyric Controller, LYNX Touch Panels and VISTA Panels. A user can receive text, email and push notifications from Total Connect whenever a system sensor has been activated. This includes smoke detectors and life-safety sensors. Unlike HomeKit, Total Connect 2.0 will provide detailed information regarding the Zone Type and the specific Zone. The Total Connect 2.0 Mobile App is compatible with iOS and Android devices. For more information on the differences between HomeKit and Total Connect 2.0, please review this FAQ.
Please note there are also HomeKit-compatible smoke detectors that will provide more-detailed alerts through HomeKit when activated. These devices will present a better solution for users who want to receive alerts through HomeKit regarding smoke detectors and other life-safety sensors.
