Why Can't I Arm My Qolsys IQ Panel 4 Away With A PG9949?

When enrolled in a Qolsys IQ Panel 4, you can arm Away with the PG9949 key fob. Press the lock button, the panel arms Stay then immediately press the lock button again. This causes the IQ4 to arm in the Away Mode. Key fobs with only two (2) buttons emulate the operation of the Qolsys IQ Fob.

The Qolsys IQ Panel 4 is a 7" capacitive glass touchscreen All-In-One panel with a built-in camera for optional disarm images. The panel comes in black or white, and in different variations of each color. The various versions allow the user to install a new feature-rich wireless panel without having to replace the previous system's wired or wireless sensors. One variation of the panel can support legacy RF sensors from the 319.5 Mhz (Qolsys/GE/Interlogix) lineup. These sensors can come in the original non-encrypted variety or can use Qolsys S-Line encryption. The IQ Panel 4 with 319.5 MHz RF can support both versions. There is also an IQ Panel 4 version to support the 345 Mhz (Honeywell/2gig) sensors, and a version for the 433 Mhz (DSC) sensors. All three (3) versions will also support 915 MHz PowerG frequency sensors. There is also an IQ Panel 4 version that supports PowerG only. This version is available in white only.

The Qolsys IQ Panel 4 also comes with either a Verizon or AT&T cellular module built-in. It can also be connected to WIFI with a built-in internal dual-band WIFI card. These communication options can be used together for dual-path communication, or cellular can be used solo to connect to the Alarm.com remote service. In order to use alarm.com, a compatible service plan with a dealer is required. Alarm.com requires, at a minimum, a cellular-capable plan to activate the service. For Alarm Grid customers, this is a Gold Plan (Self or Full) or higher.

When customers want a quick and easy way to arm and disarm the IQ4, many look to key fobs. Since all flavors of the IQ Panel 4 support PowerG, PowerG key fobs are a popular option. With a key fob, you want the ability to disarm, arm stay, and arm away. The PG9949 only has two (2) buttons, and pressing the lock button will arm the panel in the Stay Mode. This has caused some confusion as to whether you can arm Away using the PG9949. The answer is yes! You can arm in Away Mode with a PG9949 key fob.

The IQ Panel 4, by default, has a feature enabled called 'Auto Bypass.' This will bypass any faulted or tampered sensors at the time of arming, including when arming using a key fob. If the feature is disabled, then the panel will reject an arming attempt if there is a faulted or tampered zone. Be mindful of this feature when arming with a key fob.

Follow the instructions below to arm Away with a PG9949 key fob on a Qolsys IQ Panel 4:

1. Press and release the lock button. When the IQ4 is in a disarmed state, stand approximately 10' away from the panel. Press the lock button for one (1) second and then release.

2. Verify transmission. Verify that the red transmit LED turns on and that the IQ4 arms in Stay Mode.

3. Press and release the lock button again. Press the lock button for one (1) second and then release.

4. Verify transmission. Verify that the red transmit LED turns on and the IQ4 arms to Away Mode.
