Why Won't My 2GIG GC2 Send a Cell Test?

You 2GIG GC2 won't send a Cell Test because Question 91 (Q91) in System Configuration is set to option 0. For a GC2 that is being set up with Alarm.com, this option should be set to 1. This setting is found on any GC2 running FW Version 1.12 or higher, as well as on the 2GIG GC2e System.

On a 2GIG Go!Control GC2 with Firmware Version 1.12 or higher, as well as any 2GIG GC2e Security System, Question 91 (Q91) in System Configuration is for "Select radio modem supplier". The default setting is "(0) no radio modem supplier". But when you have this setting set to (0), you will not be able to run a Cell Test for the system. This is because setting the option to (0) essentially disables the cellular communicator for the system. You need to get into programming and change the setting for Q91 to the number that corresponds with the monitoring service you are using with the system. For Alarm.com, this is one (1). ADC is by far the most common provider for the GC2 and GC2e.

There are a few extra things to keep in mind regarding this setting. First, if you enable Question 44 (Q44) for Select Lock Installer Programming by setting it to (1), then you will not be able to adjust the Q91 setting. You will need to disable Q44 by setting it to (0) for Disabled before you will be able to adjust the Q91 setting. The default setting for Q44 is (0) Disabled, so you will only need to change Q44 if someone else changed it previously. Second, you will typically want to set Q91 to (1) for Alarm.com. Other monitoring services use a different entry. It is known that (2) is for Telguard, and (5) is for SecureNet. The other entries are not known. If you are monitored by Alarm Grid, then you will almost certainly choose (1) for Alarm.com. If you are monitored by a different company, then you should reach out to them if you need to know which option to select. Again, (1) for Alarm.com is by far the most common selection.

The third and final thing to keep in mind is that you will need the system's Installer Code to access this setting within System Configuration. The default Installer Code for a 2GIG GC2 or 2GIG GC2e is 1561. You should try that code if you do not know which code to try. Some monitoring companies change the Installer Code to keep their customers from getting into programming. If you are setting up new monitoring service with Alarm Grid and you do not know the Installer Code that was set by the system's previous monitoring company, then you should reach to us for help.

Depending on the previous monitoring company, we may know some commonly used codes that may get you into programming. Once we are inside, we can then reset the code back to 1561 so that you do not get locked out again. Any new Alarm Grid customer needing this type of help should email us at support@alarmgrid.com, and one of our experts will make sure to reply back to you as soon as possible. Remember that our support hours are from 9 am to 8 pm ET M-F, so please consider that when emailing us if you are expecting an immediate response. Unfortunately, there is no way to register the system's cellular communicator for monitoring service unless we can get into programming and change the Q91 setting. This makes figuring out the code essential to getting the system monitored.

To change the Q91 setting on a 2GIG GC2 or 2GIG GC2e, complete the following steps:

1. Access System Configuration. Begin from the main screen of the GC2 or GC2e. Click the 2GIG logo in the bottom-right corner. Enter the system's Installer Code. The default Installer Code is 1561, but remember, it may have been changed by the system's previous Installer. After you provide the Installer Code, choose System Configuration. You will enter into System Configuration.

2. Change Q91. Near the right-hand side of the screen, press the "Go To" button that is surrounded by arrows. Then enter [91]. You will go to Q91: Select radio modem supplier. On the keypad on the left-hand side of the screen, enter the desired value. For Alarm.com, which is by far the most common option, enter [1]. Other options include [2] for Telguard, and [5] for SecureNet. For a different radio modem supplier, check with your monitoring company. Remember, you may need to first set Question 44 (Q44) to (0) Disabled. Continue to the next step once Q91 is set to (1) for Alarm.com, or a different value as instructed by your monitoring provider.

3. Save and exit. With Q91 set to (1) or a different value as instructed by your monitoring provider, press the End button in the bottom-right corner. You can then review all of the programming settings at the summary screen. Make sure that the box for Save Changes at the bottom is marked. Then press the Exit button in the bottom-right corner. The system will reboot, and any changes will be applied. You should then be able to successfully send a cell test from the panel.
