Will 2GIG Sensors Work On a DSC Impassa?
No, 2GIG Sensors will not work on a DSC Impassa. This is because the DSC Impassa is designed to work with sensors at the 433 MHz frequency. Since the 2GIG Sensors operate at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz, they cannot be used with the DSC Impassa. But legacy DSC Sensors will work instead.
That said, there is a work around if a user wants to use 2GIG Sensors with a DSC Impassa Alarm System. The Resolution Products RE524X is a converter that can take the wireless frequency of a particular sensor and convert it to the frequency of another manufacturer. In this case, it can take the 345 MHz frequency of 2GIG Sensors and convert it into 433 MHz to work with the DSC Impassa. But without this converter, using 2GIG Sensors with the DSC Impassa is impossible. This same converter can also be used to program 319.5 MHz Qolsys and Interlogix/GE Sensors and 345 MHz Honeywell 5800 Series Sensors with the DSC Impassa as well. Though it can support one or the other of these, but not both at the same time.
But in lieu of adding a converter, the easier option for an end user is to just use legacy DSC wireless sensors with the DSC Impassa System. These sensors already operate at a wireless frequency that is compatible with the alarm system. A user will be able to program these sensors with no add-on component being required. Using these sensors is generally recommended over using a wireless converter to try and use sensors that operate at a different frequency.
Please note that DSC also manufactures a series of sensors that operate at a higher frequency of 915 MHz. These are referred to as PowerG Sensors. Users should be aware that the PowerG Sensors will not successfully interface with the DSC Impassa Alarm System. These sensors are designed to work with more advanced alarm systems from DSC. There is also no way to convert the 915 MHz signal to work with the DSC Impassa wireless receiver.
