Will My Honeywell L5210 Work w/ SmartThings?

Yes, your Honeywell L5210 will work with SmartThings. This is done by making the L5210 a secondary Z-Wave controller, while the SmartThings Hub is set as the primary. All Z-Wave devices paired with SmartThings will be pushed to the L5210 Panel. The L5210 must have an L5100-ZWAVE installed.

By setting the L5210 as a secondary Z-Wave controller, you can operate your Z-Wave smart home devices through the L5210, through Total Connect 2.0, and through Samsung SmartThings. When doing this, all Z-Wave devices that are paired with Samsung SmartThings will be pushed over to both the L5210 and then TC2. You will also be able to run scenes for these Z-Wave devices through any of the configured platforms. Remember that you can only make the L5210 a secondary Z-Wave controller if an L5100-ZWAVE card is installed inside the panel.

It is important to note that SmartThings uses Z-Wave Plus technology, while an L5210 using an L5100-ZWAVE module will only support Classic Z-Wave technology. This means that pairing a certified Z-Wave Plus device with a Samsung SmartThings Hub will provide superior range and battery life than if it were paired with the L5210. Even though the device is being used with the L5210 by making the panel a secondary controller, the device will still experience the range and battery life of Z-Wave Plus. This is because the device is ultimately paired with the SmartThings Hub, which is certified Z-Wave Plus.

If you want to set up the L5210 as a secondary Z-Wave controller for SmartThings, it is an easy process. The SmartThings Hub and the L5210 should be in relatively close proximity. Open the SmartThings App, and choose "+ Add a Thing". Next, turn your attention to the L5210. From the main screen, choose Automation > down arrow > Tools > Advanced Tools > Master or Installer Code (defaults are 1234 and 4112) > Learn. This should pair the L5210 with the SmartThings Hub as a secondary controller. All Z-Wave devices enrolled with the the SmartThings Hub will be pushed to the L5210.

NOTE: If devices have been paired directly with the L5210, they will not automatically transfer to the SmartThings Hub after the L5210 is paired with it. In order to work with SmartThings, these devices will need to be excluded from the L5210, and included with SmartThings. If multiple devices have been paired to the L5210, the “Reset Controller” option can be used to clear all devices at once. From there, each device should be excluded, and then included with the SmartThings Hub. Once that has been done, follow the steps above to pair the L5210 with SmartThings, and all the devices from SmartThings will be transferred over to the L5210. These devices can then be included in scenes associated with the L5210, programmed either locally, or through Total Connect 2.0.
