Description
Those looking for an encrypted outdoor door and window contact sensor for the 2GIG GC2e or 2GIG GC3e can count on the 2GIG DW30e-345. This sensor is specifically designed to withstand the elements associated with an outdoor setting. It is great for use in patios, garages, fences, and more.
If you are familiar with the operation of most other door and window contact sensors, then the 2GIG DW30e-345 should be nothing new to you. The sensor works in conjunction with an included magnet. The larger sensor is typically installed on the stationary door or window frame, while the magnet is usually installed on the moving portion of the door or window. When the door or window is opened, the magnet becomes separated from the sensor. This tells the sensor to alert the system about the opened door or window. For proper operation, the maximum spacing gap between the sensor and the magnet when the door or window is closed should be no more than two (2) inches, though a magnet spacing gap of less than one-forth (1/4) of an inch, or 0.25 inches, is recommend.
This is an encrypted sensor that offers better wireless protection and security than non-encrypted variants. Non-encrypted sensors are often vulnerable to certain malicious attacks that can prevent them from working as intended. By going with an encrypted sensor like the 2GIG DW30e-345, you can rest easy in knowing that your wireless device is not vulnerable to various hacking and takeover attempts. However, like most encrypted sensors, the DW30e-345 has a limited selection in terms of system compatibility. In this case, the sensor can only be used with a 2GIG GC2e or 2GIG GC3e. Make sure you have a compatible system before purchasing.
A unique aspect of the 2GIG DW30e-345 is that is specially built to withstand the harsh elements of an outdoor location. This includes elements such as wind, rain, heavy sunlight, and excessive dust. This is made possible thanks to a special sealing cover that comes included with the sensor. The sealing cover is installed between the sensor and its mounting plate. The sensor also has a wider operating temperature than most indoor sensors. Since the sensor is typically used outside, it may be located further away than most of the other sensors on the system. The range for this sensor is roughly 350 nominal feet. If you find that you are having range issues with this sensor, then there is a repeater specifically built for use with the 2GIG eSeries Encrypted Sensors, which is called the 2GIG RPTR1e-345. Many users of the 2GIG DW30e-345 will pair the wireless outdoor contact sensor with the encrypted wireless repeater to ensure that the sensor always communicates with the panel successfully. You may want to do your own testing first to find out if the repeater is needed.
The 2GIG DW30e-345 receives power from two (2) lithium AA batteries, which come included with the product. We advise using stainless steel self-locking strap ties if the sensor is being mounted on a curved surface. Basic mounting hardware is included, but not the stainless steel self-locking strap ties. There is a tamper switch inside the sensor, and the sensor will alert the system if someone opens it. The sensor has a terminal block inside, allowing you to connect a single Form C SPDT wired contact. This will allow you to use the DW30e-345 as a wireless transmitter. When doing this, the wire connecting the DW30e-345 and the wired contact should be no longer than three (3) feet. The DW30e Sensor measures 4.57"L x 2.13"W x 1.54"D, and its magnet measures 4.06"L x 0.98"W x 1.1"D. It is a rare earth magnet. The sensor and magnet may be painted if desired, but metallic paint colors should not be used.
