DSC AC-500
Acuity® Ceiling-Mount Glassbreak Detector
Description
The DSC AC-500 Acuity Ceiling-Mount Glass Break Detector is designed to monitor the glass windows and protective glass casings inside a home or business. This hardwired security device operates using an omnidirectional microphone and an integrated advanced microprocessor-based sensor.
The Acuity Glass Break Sensor is centered around an advanced microprocessor that receives input from its omnidirectional microphone. With its advanced processor, the AC-500 can accurately determine the difference between glass breaking within its detection area compared to other loud or high-pitched noises. It can protect plate, float, tempered, wired, and laminated glass from up to 25 feet away. This makes it suitable for almost any application where glass break protection is needed. For best results, the device should be mounted on the ceiling and have a clear line of sight to the glass being monitored.
Indoor window coverings such as drapes and blinds can mute the sound of glass being broken. For this reason, before permanently mounting the AC-500, it should be properly tested according to the instructions provided with the detector. The DSC AFT-100 is the glass break simulator DSC lists as compatible with this lineup of sensors. But unfortunately, Alarm Grid is no longer able to source these simulators. You may, however, be able to find one elsewhere. When testing the AC-500, be sure that all window coverings are in their normal position, and that the AC-500 successfully passes all testing. Only then can you reasonably assume that the detector will perform to specifications.
For installations where multiple glass break detectors are wired to a single wired zone, the DSC AC-500 has an alarm memory feature. When The Jumper J2 is set to ON, any time the detector senses glass breaking the alarm LED will latch in the ON position. This way, the user will be able to tell which glass break detector on the zone caused the alarm. In order to reset the latched LED, power to the detector will need to be dropped momentarily. Most alarm panels have some type of reset feature that can perform this function automatically upon the alarm being cleared.
Please note that this is the ceiling-mount version of the Acuity Sensor. DSC also offers wall-mounted versions of this sensor. The DSC AC-101 version of the Acuity Glass Break Detector is a wall-mounted detector that is Form A, supporting normally closed wiring that also has a normally closed tamper switch. DSC also offers another version of the same sensor without a tamper switch, the DSC AC-100.
