DSC PCL-422
Remote Communicator Mounting Module for NEO
Description
The DSC PCL-422 is an accessory for a DSC PowerSeries NEO and its external communicator. It connects with the NEO Panel using a PC-Link Cable, and the communicator wires to the PCL-422. The communicator is then mounted outside the panel's enclosure. All NEO Communicators come with a PCL-422.
The main purpose of the DSC PCL-422 is to extend the PC-Link connection, which itself is a relatively short cable. The communicator for a PowerSeries NEO System won't have the PC-Line connector pins. Therefore, it relies on the PCL-422 for completing the connection with the alarm panel. You can then connect a series of wires between the communicator and the PCL-422 so that the communicator can be mounted at a location of your choosing. Choosing a location where strong cellular signal can be achieved is very important.
The process of setting up the DSC PCL-422 is the same, regardless of which DSC PowerSeries NEO Communicator you use. However, the most popular DSC PowerSeries NEO Communicators are the DSC TL880LEAT N AT&T LTE & IP Dual-Path Communicator and the DSC TL880LTVZ N Verizon LTE & IP Dual-Path Communicator. Both of these communicators allow for seamless connectivity with the Alarm.com platform. This is an essential component for monitoring your DSC PowerSeries NEO System and controlling it remotely using a phone or web browser.
When setting up the DSC PCL-422 and the panel's external communicator, you will want to make sure to first power down the system. Failure to power down could result in damage to the panel and/or the communicator. There are six (6) wires that connect between the PCL-422 and the communicator. Remember to run the wires through the panel's metal cabinet, as you will not be able to do so after the PCL-422 and the communicator have been connected. Four (4) of the wires go between the RX and TX terminals on the PCL-422 and the communicator.
The four (4) PCL-422 and communicator data connections are outlined below:
- RX+ on communicator to TX+ on PCL-422
- RX- on communicator to TX- on PCL-422
- TX+ on communicator to RX+ on PCL-422
- TX- on communicator to RX- on PCL-422
Next, an additional two (2) wires are used for power. The power connections are simple. Make a connection between the GND terminals on the PCL-422 and the communicator, as well as a second connection between their 12V+ terminals. Normally, black is used for the negative (-) GND connection, and red is used for the positive (+) 12V+ connection.
The PC-Link connection between the DSC PCL-422 and the NEO Panel is very straightforward. Both the PCL-422 and the NEO have male pins that allow for easy connectivity for the PC-Link cable, which uses a female port. You can then mount of the DSC PCL-422 to the side of the panel's metal enclosure. Mounting hardware for the PCL-422 is included. Please note that it is also possible to use a second DSC PCL-422 module if you intend on using a communicator installed outside of a second metal enclosure. Never mount a communicator totally inside a metal enclosure, as that will disrupt cell signals.
Please note that the PCL-422 draws 55 mA of current from the panel. Additionally, an added communicator will also draw 400 mA of current when transmitting signals via cellular. A DSC PowerSeries NEO System only provides up to 700 mA of current, and DSC recommends not exceeding more than 650 mA to ensure best possible performance. The typical NEO System will also be using keypads and powered hardwired sensors that will also be drawing power from the panel. As a result, you will likely need a DSC HSM2300 Power Supply for your NEO System. Each DSC HSM2300 unit provides an additional 1.0A of power for the system. The NEO supervises the HSM for AC loss, low battery, and power output failure.
