Honeywell MPS73WG

The Honeywell MPS73WG is a 3/4” diameter recessed contact with a 3/8” diameter magnet. The MPS73WG is very similar to the Honeywell 944SP recessed contact although there are some minor differences. You can use the MPS73WG with any wired alarm control panel to protect a door or window from intrusion. The MPS73WG operates using a contact and a magnet. When the door or window is shut, the contact and the magnet are in close proximity and your security system is in a normal state. If your security system is currently armed, and someone opens the protected door or window, an alarm will go off. The MPS73WG only comes in the white color which is part number MPS73WWG.

Just like all recessed door contacts, you will need to drill a hole in your door or window for the magnet and a hole in your door or window frame for the MPS73WG contact. The MPS73WG recessed contact requires a 3/4” diameter hole and the corresponding magnet requires a 3/8” diameter hole. Before drilling your holes, make sure to mark the position of each hole and ensure that when the door or window is closed that the contact and magnet will be directly across from each other. If you misalign your installation holes, the MPS73WG contact will not work and you will not be able to arm your security system because the zone will be in a constant state of fault. You will have to drill new holes and you will have to plug your original holes.

The Honeywell MPS73WG recessed contact has an internal reed switch with a contact rating of 200mA at 30VDC. The reed switch is a Form A, SPST, normally closed contact so make sure to program your zone as normally closed. You will use the wire leads coming out of the back of the recessed contact to connect the MPS73WG to the zone wiring coming from your alarm control panel.

There are some minor differences between the Honeywell MPS73WG and the Honeywell 944SP recessed contacts. The MPS73WG has a magnet spacing gap of 1.25” while the 944SP has a gap of 3/4”. Ensure that when your protected door or window is closed, that the MPS73WG contact is not more than 1.25” away from the corresponding magnet. While the 944SP has a 5’ zip cord as the wire leads, the MPS73WG uses more traditional 12” wire leads. Aside from these minor differences, the recessed contacts are fairly interchangeable.
