Description

The Kwikset Obsidian Touchscreen Z-Wave Deadbolt Lock offers great convenience and ease of use for end users. It is a simple, yet highly effective device that uses advanced technology to keep a home safe and secure. And users will greatly appreciate the sleek design that adds to the decor.

The Keyless Obsidian Lock is named after the sleek and smooth volcanic rock of the same name. The robust Z-Wave lock was given this title for its glossy black finish that doesn't draw direct attention to itself, but looks impressively neat and polished when it is noticed. The layout of the device is not complex by any means, and it is very easy for an end user to operate on a daily basis. The lock uses no physical keys, and it is operated entirely using its touchscreen keypad. This way, a user will no longer have to worry about carrying around and using a physical key for their home. All activation will be done on the keypad. Up to 16 codes can be stored in the lock.

Behind the scenes, the Z-Wave lock will be communicating with the user's security system. Any system user code will work on the keypad, providing the user with easy access into the building. But advanced SecureScreen technology will prevent any unwanted entry, while 128-bit AES encryption will stop any potential wireless attacks. The lock itself is extremely secure, meeting BHMA Grade 2 Deadbolt Operational and Security Standards. It truly is one of the most secure locks available today.

The SecureScreen for the Obsidian Lock works by having the touchscreen go blank after a period of inactivity. Touching the keypad in any location will activate it. The keypad will then display two randomly generated numbers on the screen. Both numbers must be pressed to display the complete touchscreen. Only then can a user enter in a valid code to open the lock. By using this technology, different numbers on the keypad will be entered on the keypad every time. This will prevent an intruder from simply looking at the keypad and seeing which digits have fingerprints on them in an effort to determine the access code.

Other features for the the Obsidian include he ability to manage user codes (up to 16), setting up a Master Code for user code management, an optional auto-lock feature and a backup power source option. Please also note that the Obsidian uses Z-Wave Plus technology for ultra-reliable communication and extended range.

Excellent Door Lock!

The Kwikset Obsidian is a touchscreen Z-Wave Plus deadbolt lock. The keyless lock will keep the entry properly secured and protected. The lock features an attractive touchscreen, and many users are particularly fond of the touchscreen controls. All control is done from the touchscreen keypad, including device set up. We think this is an excellent Z-Wave Plus door lock, so we give it a 5 Star rating.

There is so much to like about the Kwikset Obsidian. It has a BHMA Grade 2 Rating, meaning that it will keep your home nice and secure once locked. Its design is absolutely beautiful, and it will look great on your front door. You can even choose between two (2) different finishes to match your decor. The device is easy to use, and its touchscreen is simple to understand once you get the hang of it. The lock even offers a security mechanism to prevent an intruder from guessing the user code based on fingerprints. Our technicians have found that this works quite well. The lock uses 128-bit AES encryption in its wireless communications to prevent anyone from hacking into the lock. This keeps it incredibly protected and secure. And with Z-Wave Plus technology, you can enjoy extended range and battery life when using the lock with a compatible Z-Wave Plus controller. Overall, this really is an excellent lock with a lot of great features.

The only real downside to this lock is that it needs to be physically installed. You will need to remove your existing door lock and install this one in its place. This isn't super difficult, but it is time-consuming, and it might be challenging if you aren't great with tools. But there really aren't many negative aspects to the Kwikset Obsidian. We think it deserves 5 Stars.

Good: BHMA Grade 2 Rating, Fantastic Design, Different Finishing Options, Easy to Use, Security Provisions, 128-Bit AES Encryption, Z-Wave Plus

Bad: Must be Installed

Bottom Line: 5 Stars
