Description
The IQ Door Window-S is the premier wireless door and window contact for the IQ Panel 2. The sensor works in conjunction with a magnet. When the door or window is opened, the magnet will separate from the sensor, causing a reed switch to activate. The sensor will then alert the system.
As a sensor that operates at 319.5 MHz, the IQ Door Window-S will work with the IQ Panel 2, the original IQ Panel and the Interlogix Simon Series Systems. However, the sensor will only utilize the S-Line rolling code encryption when used with the IQ Panel 2. If it is used with a different panel, it will operate as a non-encrypted sensor.
The IQ Door Window-S can be easily mounted with screws or with double-sided foam tape. The device comes with a double-sided adhesive for this purpose. For optimal functionality, the sensor itself should be mounted on the door or window frame, and the magnet should be mounted on the actual door or window. The device operates using a 3-volt CR2 battery, with a battery life of roughly three to five years.
The sensor is very easy to program with an alarm system, and it offers great functionality as a security sensor. Many users will also use these devices for activating Z-Wave smart home devices. This is done by creating rules that instruct certain Z-Wave scenes to activate when the sensor is activated. A user can have a Z-Wave scene activate as soon as they open a door and activate the IQ Door Window-S. That way, they can have the lights turn on in the room automatically.
A user can check the status of their IQ Door Window-S contact at any time from Alarm.com. The sensor will also alert the system if it is ever opened up by using its tamper switch. The sensor measures in at 2.6"L x 0.75"W x 0.75"D.
Note: Qolsys sensors operate at 319.5 MHz. They will not work with the 345 MHz and the 433 MHz versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. They are designed for the 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus and other 319.5 MHz systems.

The Qolsys IQ Door Window-S is a 319.5 MHz door and window contact sensor. It will utilize S-Line rolling code encryption when paired with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 System. This sensor is easy to install, and it reliably lets the system know when a door, window, or cabinet has been opened. However, the sensor is rather large when compared with other door and window contacts. Specifically, it is much larger than the newer and more compact Qolsys IQ DW MINI-S Sensor, while offering no additional features. And to top it off, the Qolsys IQ DW MINI-S can be obtained for less than half the price. We do not think that the Qolsys IQ Door Window-S presents a good value, and therefore we cannot strongly recommend it. That is why we give this sensor a 3-Star rating.
There are positive aspects regarding the Qolsys IQ Door Window-S. It can be easily installed, and it reliably lets the system know when it has been activated. We appreciate the fact that the sensor utilizes S-Line rolling code encryption when paired with the Qolsys IQ Panel 2, and we also like the fact that it is backwards compatible with other 319.5 MHz security systems. If you already have an existing Qolsys IQ Door Window-S, then you can continue to use it without issue.
But the downsides of the Qolsys IQ Door Window-S are very apparent when you look at other similar sensors. The Qolsys IQ Door Window-S is very bulky for a door/window contact sensor, and many users may want to find a more discreet option, such as the Qolsys IQ DW MINI-S. We also think this sensor is overpriced, and there are multiple less expensive options readily available. The fact that this sensor uses a CR2 battery is somewhat weird, as that really isn't a commonly used battery type. You will need to replace the battery every three (3) to five (5) years, which is fairly common for a sensor of this type. Still, there are just too many downsides and flaws for us to really recommend this sensor. For those reasons, it gets 3 Stars from Alarm Grid.
