Jeanine from Kentucky asks how to bypass a zone on the Honeywell LYNX Touch wireless security system

Hi DIYers. This is Sterling with Alarm Grid and today we're going to be answering a question from Jeanine in Kentucky. Jeanine is wondering how to bypass one of the zones that has been learned to her LYNX Touch L5100 Wireless Security System.

So, Jeanine, for those that don't know, the reason for bypassing a zone is that you want that sensor to not be included when you go to arm your system. There are a few different reasons why you would want to bypass: maybe your sensor is broken and you're waiting to get a replacement, maybe the battery has died and you haven't got a replacement battery yet.

Or maybe you're having some type of RF supervision problem where your sensor is not being seen by the panel and you haven't solved the problem yet, but you really don't want to trouble messages beeping at you all the time and you don't want to worry about leaving the house unprotected. So you bypass the zone and the system basically says "Okay, I'm going to stop looking for that program's sensor for this arming period."

It's very important that when you bypass, the system only bypasses for that arming period. What that means is that when you arm the system, where going to show you, first of all, how to bypass and then arm. As soon as you disarm, the next time you go to arm, the sensor will be back. It will no longer be bypassed. So you have to individually bypass each sensor, every
single time you go to arm it.

Obviously, this is only a quick fix until you fix the problem that's causing you to want to bypass from the beginning. If you ever needed to delete the sensor and you don't want to bypass every time, you just delete the sensor and you don't have to worry about it. So, now that we've gone over what bypassing is and why you would do it, let's show you how to do it.

The first thing you want to do is click on More at the bottom right of the screen. It will show you system, tools and settings. Click on Tools and enter 1, 2, 3, 4 - the default master code

From the home screen, click on the Zones icon and it will show you the program zones. Right now, we have 1 zone - our programmed wireless 5811 which is our front door. We also have our fire and police panic zones but we're not going to get into that.

We're going to bypass this 5811 sensor. So what you would do is you click on the zoning light to bypass. You could select more than one but where just going to select the one for the front door and then click Bypass.

They want you to enter your user code to make sure you're the real user. Otherwise, somebody could come into your property and bypass all your zones and when you went to arm your system, you might not realize and your whole house would be unprotected. So they want to make sure you're a registered user and to do that, you enter your master code - 1, 2, 3, 4 is the default.

Now on the zone list, you'll see the little icon has changed and that it's bypassed in red. So, our front door - zone 2 - is bypassed. If we go back to the home screen and arm the system, even with the door sensor open, so we're going to move the magnet away from the door sensor which would normally be a fault and would not allow you to arm the system. But because it's been bypassed, it's not showing and you would be able to arm the system. Exit now.
