In this video, Jorge talks about using Zigbee devices with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Alarm System. Although there is a Zigbee daughtercard available for the IQ Panel 2 System, it is really only used to support a Qolsys Image Sensor device. The alarm system is unable to support conventional Zigbee devices.
Zigbee is a wireless smart home automation protocol that is very similar to Z-Wave. While Zigbee has many practical applications, it is not as commonly used as Z-Wave with home security systems. Most users will select Z-Wave as their protocol of choice because of its general compatibility with the Alarm.com platform. By setting up a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 with this service for alarm monitoring, a user will be able to operate their Z-Wave devices through both Alarm.com and the actual IQ Panel 2 System.
If a user expects to form a robust Zigbee mesh network around the IQ Panel 2, they are going to be very disappointed. While the Qolsys IQ Card-IS is a Zigbee daughtercard available for the IQ Panel 2 System, it only has one compatible device. This single compatible device is the Qolsys Image Sensor module. The best way to picture the Qolsys Image Sensor is to imagine a motion detecting sensor with a built-in camera for taking pictures. When the motion sensor is activated, the camera will take a picture of the area.
Any image produced by the image sensor will be available for viewing from Alarm.com. The user can also receive a notification with the produced image to their Android or iOS device. This is great for confirming any break-ins. If they check the image and an intruder is present, then they will be able to provide definitive proof of a robbery to the local authorities.
One thing to remember about the Qolsys IQ Card-IS is that it uses the same daughtercard slot as the PowerG daughtercard for supporting PowerG Sensors. This module is only available with the IQ Panel 2 Plus System. So if a user wants to use the Zigbee daughtercard and a Qolsys Image Sensor with the IQ Panel 2 Plus, they must remove the PowerG daughtercard first. However, in that case, they would really be better off buying a standard IQ Panel 2 System instead of an IQ Panel 2 Plus. The PowerG daughtercard is really the only reason why someone would consider an IQ Panel 2 Plus over the original IQ Panel 2, as they are otherwise the exact same system,

hadia wires I'm George from alarm grid today we're gonna be going over the kosis panel 2 and the ZigBee compatibility right so the IQ 2 has a slot where you can put in a zig be daughter board card however the ZigBee devices that you can use on it are extremely limited the only ZigBee device you can use is gonna be an image sensor and that's actually going to be the closest image sensor there's a model number in our faq as well so you want to make sure that you take a look at that and basically what the daughter board card does is if you have that installed and then you also have an image sensor the image sensor is basically a bill it has a it's a device with a built in motion and a camera so whenever the motion is triggered then the camera takes a picture and the picture is sent to alarm comm which then sends it to you in an email or text message or push notification so you can actually look at the images on the actual app as well now again the alarm.com app does work if you have the system activated and monitored so you have to make sure that first the systems is registered with a monitoring company you have to make sure that you have the ZigBee daughterboard card installed in the actual iq2 and then you also have to make sure that you have the image sensor all right now one little caveat with ZigBee daughterboard card is that it actually uses up the same slot that the power g daughterboard card uses so if you guys have the IQ 2 plus or if you guys even have an IQ 2 with a power G daughterboard card in it then you have to make sure that if you're planning on using the ZigBee daughterboard card that you take out the power g card now this is a hard choice to make because you're basically forced to choose between using the power g or using the ZigBee now power G's is great because the sensors they have crazy range the ZigBee limits you to only using the image sensors so you're gonna have to pick and choose which one you want to do since they both do use the same slot now if you guys have any other ZigBee devices that are not image sensors those unfortunate we will not work with the IQ to remember the IQ to only works with ZigBee image sensors if you guys are looking to do any home automation lights lock thermostats the panel has z-wave built-in so you guys can actually do z-wave devices and you guys can take care of your home automation stuff using the z-wave frequency all right but uh again just a touch base the IQ tool is only ZigBee compatible with the image sensors if you guys have any questions on how to get those installed where to purchase them how to activate them feel free to email us at support at alarm good comm if you guys found this video helpful make sure that you hit like underneath subscribe to the YouTube channel and enable notifications so whenever we upload new content you guys do get notified I'm George I'll see you guys next time
