The First Alert VX1 HD video doorbell is a modern, sleek, attractive doorbell camera. It connects to your existing doorbell wiring and your wireless internet. This provides a great video doorbell option to capture any desired activity. This doorbell is branded as First Alert, which is part of the Resideo aka Honeywell/Honeywell Home family.

The name of the company continues to evolve. This can be confusing at times. They've used names such as ADEMCO, Pittway, Honeywell, Honeywell Home, Resideo, and now First Alert. While what they call themselves may change a lot, one thing that stays constant is their quality and industry-proven products.

The VX1 has a 5MP camera, 2-way audio, dual-band WIFI, and intelligent event detection. This event detection uses advanced AI that can easily tell the difference between people, packages, vehicles, animals, and loud sounds. A feature that will limit unwanted recordings. The camera has a built-in LED, color night vision options, and a siren that can be manually activated to scare off unwanted guests. The wide dynamic range (WDR) feature provides a high video quality, with vibrant colors, in a variety of lighting conditions.

This new video offering includes some nice accessories as well. It comes with a gray and a white trim ring, a straight and an angled mounting bracket, a chime adapter, a doorbell release/reset tool, and mounting hardware. The VX1 is made of UV-resistant material ready to withstand the elements. It will operate at temperatures ranging from -40°F to 122°F.

The advanced features of the VX1 doorbell camera does mean that it requires a Total Connect 2.0 (TC2) video plan. For Alarm Grid customers, this is a Platinum (Self or Full) or Video only monitoring plan. Each VX1 will count as one (1) camera in your video package. Each video plan allows up to eight (8) cameras per package. The smart camera package will allow up to 50 clips per day, per camera.

The VX1 has 3 options for field-of-view. Tall, wide, and full. Tall optimizes the camera for a portrait-style view. While wide, it optimizes the camera for a landscape style of view. Finally, full provides the largest field-of-view possible. You can also select between low and high video quality. The doorbell also provides many other settings to adjust the use of the indoor chime, to set how night vision works, control the doorbell lights, control the speaker volume, and the microphone volume.

TC2 will send you email and/or text notifications when motion or sound detections have occurred. Configure up to four (4) detection windows and make adjustments for sensitivity and choose whether to capture people, packages, vehicles, or animals within each window. Sound detection can be turned on or off for loud sounds, and is selectable between low, medium, and high sensitivity.

The live view of the camera adds additional options to arm and disarm your TC2 compatible alarm system. You can also lock or unlock your compatible Z-Wave lock that is configured during the setup of the VX1. You have the option of manually recording a video or taking a snapshot picture. As mentioned earlier, this is also where you will find the deterence feature. This siren icon can be activated manually when you want to scare off unwanted visitors.
