Wireless door alarm sensors represent some of our best selling products. There are many reasons to love these handy and useful wireless security devices. They provide the essential function of letting your security system know when a door is opened or closed. This is very important for catching break-ins. Many intruders simply walk right through a front door and make a clean getaway. Installing door sensors will ensure that your system is alerted to this activity and that action is taken.

Most door alarm sensors work in the same way. There is a sensor and a smaller accompanying magnet. The sensor is placed on the door frame. The magnet is properly aligned on the door itself directly aside the sensor. Opening the door will cause the magnet to separate from the sensor. This will release a reed switch inside the sensor. The sensor will respond by sending an alert to the security panel. The system will respond based on the programming settings for that zone. This usually involves requiring a system disarm within a short entry delay period. If no valid code is provided, then the system will go into alarm. An alert will be sent to a central monitoring station and/or the end user via text and/or email. There are also some wireless recessed door alarm sensors that use a plunger switch instead of a reed switch and magnet. However, this is much less common.

Wireless door alarm sensors communicate with alarm control panels through wireless radio frequencies. This eliminates the need for running wires across the building from the sensor to the panel. In the old days, users had no choice but to use wired sensors. But with the rise of wireless sensors, more and more people are able to install their own systems and save money by not having to hire an installer. The sensors are also very easy to mount. Most wireless door alarm sensors can be mounted without having to drill holes by using double-sided foam tape. However, the user can still mount using screws if that is what they would prefer. One thing to keep in mind when using wireless door alarm sensors is that the batteries will need to be replaced every few years. But this is very easy, and it can be quickly completed by the end user.

An important consideration with any wireless sensor is the radio frequency that it uses to communicate with the alarm control panel. The sensor must communicate at a frequency that is compatible with the security system. Some of the most popular wireless frequencies used with security systems in North America include 319.5 MHz, 345 MHz, 433 MHz and 915 MHz. Most wireless alarm control panels include a built-in wireless receiver. But you will need a separate wireless receiver if you want to use wireless sensors with a hardwired system. Remember that wireless sensors have restrictions on how far they can be placed from the wireless receiver due to range. Obstacles like walls and large metal objects can disrupt this range. You can always add a wireless repeater if you find that you are having problems with wireless range.
