Can A Resideo PROA7 Support All Resideo CO Detectors?

No, not natively. Out of the box the PROA7 and PROA7C panels can only support PROSIX sensors such as the PROSIXCO, and SiX sensors like the SiXCOMBO used with the Lyric. However, a PROTAKEOVER module can be added to support legacy Honeywell 5800 Series Sensors or those of other manufacturers.

When we talk about the Honeywell Home PROA7 and the Resideo PROA7C, then for the purposes of this question we're also talking about the Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS and the Resideo PROA7PLUSC. With regard to wireless sensor support, all four of the PROSeries panels offer the same compatibility.

We must also talk about the Resideo brand in order to answer this question accurately. Resideo was formerly known as Honeywell, and what became the modern Honeywell line was formerly known as Ademco. Honeywell bought Ademco in the year 2000 and soon changed the company name. In 2018, Honeywell chose to spin their security business off into a separate entity and named it Resideo. Resideo is licensed to use the Honeywell name, which they use as Honeywell Home. So, there may be Ademco, Honeywell, Resideo, or even Honeywell Home branded products that could be compatible with the PROA7 and other PROSeries panels.

The Honeywell 5800CO or the Resideo 5800COV and the Honeywell 5800COMBO all support carbon monoxide detection, and all can be used with the PROA7. But only after a PROTAKEOVER module is added. The PROTAKEOVER module allows the PROA7 and other PROSeries panels to support legacy RF devices from a number of different manufacturers. Honeywell, 2GIG, Qolsys/Interlogix, DSC (433 MHz only, not PowerG) and Bosch sensors can be supported by setting the selector dial on the PROTAKEOVER for one of these options. However, only one (1) legacy frequency can be used with each PROTAKEOVER. And only one PROTAKEOVER can be used with each PROSeries panel.

The purpose of a PROTAKEOVER module is to allow users to continue using existing wireless devices with the PROA7 panel. In most cases, a single frequency is used for existing legacy RF devices, so the PROTAKEOVER is perfect for this purpose. The old adage, "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" could be rephrased, "Don't replace it if it ain't broke" and alarm companies are finally embracing this philosophy. It is important to check existing devices against the PROTAKEOVER RF Compatibility list to be sure they will work. Not being on the list doesn't automatically mean a device won't work, but using an untested device is a risk, particularly with a life-safety device like a CO detector.

SiX sensors that are used with the Lyric can be upgraded to use with the PROA7 and PROA7C. When you replace a Lyric panel with a PROSeries one, your alarm dealer will go through a process in AlarmNet360 to assist with the transfer process. Once all of the SiX sensors have been transferred over to the PROSeries panel, they will go through an update. This will turn them into PROSIX sensors. From that point forward, they will no longer be compatible with the Lyric.

It's even possible to bring wired sensors from a previous wired panel into use with the PROSeries panel by way of the PROSIXC2W. However, this wired to wireless converter module does NOT support fire or carbon monoxide detectors. For any wired life-safety devices that exist in a protected premises, wireless life-safety sensors should be used to replace them.

Qolsys and 2GIG have created encrypted versions of their legacy wireless sensors. Qolsys with its S-Line sensors and 2GIG with its new 2GIG E and E+ 900 lineup. Neither of these product lines can be used with the PROA7 or PROA7C. Also, DSC has its PowerG lineup of encrypted, long-range sensors. These devices are also incompatible with the PROA7 and PROA7C.
