Can I Connect an IQ Panel 2 Plus to Alexa?
Yes, you can connect an IQ Panel 2 Plus to Alexa. To do this, the system will need to be active with Alarm.com. You can use the Alexa App to enable the Alarm.com Skill and link your Alarm.com account with Alexa. You will then be able to control the system using spoken Alexa voice commands.
In order to use Alexa voice commands to control a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus System, you will need to have Alarm.com serve as a bridge. Whenever you use Alexa to perform a security or automation function for your IQ Panel 2 Plus, the command will first need to pass through Alarm.com. If your IQ Panel 2 Plus is not set up for use with Alarm.com, then you will not be able to control the system through Amazon Alexa.
Keep in mind that the only way to gain access to Alarm.com is by signing up for an alarm monitoring plan that includes access to the service. Alarm Grid customers can choose from any Gold or Platinum Level Plan (Full or Self) to gain access to Alarm.com. We invite you to review our alarm monitoring page for more info.
Amazon Alexa uses the Alarm.com Alexa Skill to communicate with the Alarm.com servers. You must first enable the Alexa Skill within the Alexa App. This skill can be searched for within the Skills & Games section of the app. You will be prompted to provide your Alarm.com account information upon enabling the Skill. This is what allows your Alexa device to communicate with your Alarm.com account. Any system command sent through Alexa will pass through Alarm.com before being sent to your panel.
Alexa voice commands can serve as a quick and easy way to control your system. You can use these spoken commands to arm/disarm, check system status, operate individual Z-Wave devices, and execute entire smart scenes. Some more secure functions, like disarming the system or unlocking a Z-Wave door lock, may require you to first enable Alarm.com Secure Commands within the Alexa Skill. This may require you to set up a confirmation pin by un-linking and then re-linking the Alarm.com Skill within the Alexa App.
