Can I Program a 5834-4 Key Fob to a Resideo PROA7PLUS?
No, a Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS does not support the use of a Honeywell 5834-4 Key Fob. The panel can support other uni-directional legacy RF devices if a Honeywell Home PROTAKEOVER Module is added. In order to use a key fob with the PROA7PLUS, you must stick with the Honeywell Home PROSIXFOB.

For the purposes of this FAQ, the Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS and the Resideo PROA7PLUSC are the same. The Honeywell Home PROA7 and the Resideo PROA7C are also basically the same. The primary difference between them is their branding. The panel will either say Honeywell Home or Resideo on the front. As far as compatibility with the 5834-4 is concerned, the information for all four panels is exactly the same. There are significant differences between the PLUS and Non-PLUS panel versions, and you can read a comparison of those here.
Key fobs are popular items that can make arming and disarming your security system simple and stress-free. With today's apps, properly using a security system to protect your home or business is easier than ever. But, there are still those users who may not be comfortable with the app. For those users, a key fob may be the answer.
If you're replacing an older Honeywell panel with the PROA7PLUS, then you may already have a 5834-4 tied to the older system. Unfortunately, that's one legacy device that you will have to replace when upgrading. The good news is, the PROSIXFOB is about the same price as the 5834-4 and it offers 128-bit AES encryption as well as better transmitting range. It has a range of about 200' (60.9m) as opposed to the 5834-4, which has a transmitting range of about 50' (15.2m). With its 2-way communication the PROSIXFOB can also get firmware updates from the panel, something that the 5834-4 can't do.
Below is a feature comparison between the 5834-4 and the PROSIXFOB:

Honeywell, and really all security system manufacturers are doing a good job of making their newest panels work with wireless devices that may have been tied to older panels, but that are still working. No one wants to replace devices that still work perfectly, and features like the PROTAKEOVER module make that largely unnecessary.
