Can I setup Total Connect on an ADT Safewatch Pro 3000?
The Safewatch Pro 3000 is an ADT branded Honeywell VISTA-20P wired alarm system. The only true difference between the panels is the PROM chip. The chip should read "WA3001-9.12" or higher. The 9.12 is the revision number. If you have this revision or higher, your alarm system is Total Connect 2.0 compatible when used in conjunction with a Honeywell IP, Cellular or Dual Path Communicator. If it is not, then you will need a VISTA-20P PROM chip upgrade.
There are 3 options, all of which require a 4 wire connection between the ECP bus (terminals 4 through 7 on the alarm system). Two of those options also require a 2 wire connection for AC power to an included transformer. Here are your options:
1. Honeywell 7847i Internet Communicator - This will provide a wired ethernet connection between the alarm panel, and your router. There are wired to wireless bridge options you can find online if you are unable to run a cable, though running a cable is ideal.
2. Honeywell GSMV4G Cellular Communicator - This is a stand alone cellular communicator that uses 2G, 3G and 4G AT&T cellular networks to transmit signals. Cellular is a more reliable way to go since it is does not rely on AC power or a wired feed from an internet connection like that of an IP solution. This unit has an on board battery back up that will keep it running for several hours in the event of an AC power outage.
3. Honeywell iGSMV4G Dual Path Communicator - A dual path solution uses IP as a primary path and cellular as its secondary, or back up, path. This unit is a combination of the 7847i and the GSMV4G and the ultimate communication solution. You will have the speed of the internet when it is working. Then if you ever lose internet due to AC loss on the router, a line cut on the feed, or IP conflicts, the GSM unit will takeover.
Any of these options are perfectly valid. It is up to you to decide which solution fits your needs. Things to consider when making this decision would include the reliability of your internet and AT&T cellular coverage on the secured premise.
