Can I Use an LT-Cable w/ a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Alarm System?
Yes, you can use an LT-Cable with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Alarm System. The panel already comes with its own cable for supplying power. But if the user wants to use a different cable, then the Honeywell LT-Cable is a viable option. Since DC power is being used, make sure to wire correctly.
Most users choose to use the standard Qolsys cable to power the IQ Panel 2. This cable will allow the system to receive power via its barrel connection port on its circuit board. But with a Honeywell LT-Cable or a standard 18-gauge 2-conductor wire, the power will instead enter the wire terminal on the back of the system. The positive (+) wire will connect to the orange 5.0 - 5.5vDC IN terminal, and the negative (-) will connect to the black GND terminal next to it. Remember, red is positive, and black is negative. These terminals found on the back of the IQ Panel 2 can be seen in the following diagram:
To successfully complete the connection, it is necessary to know every component of the LT-Cable. The LT-Cable has a short end and a long end that meet with a male-female barrel connection. The short end will connect to the terminals on the IQ Panel 2. Its red positive (+) inner wire will connect to the orange 5.0-5.5vDC IN terminal on the IQ Panel 2. Its black negative (-) inner wire will connect the black GND terminal directly next to it. The short end of the LT-Cable cable can be seen in the following picture:
The long end of the LT-Cable will connect to the 5.5V DC plug-in transformer. The red connector will connect to the positive (+) terminal, while the black connector will connect to the negative (-) terminal. Then the DC transformer can be plugged into a wall outlet. The long end of the LT-Cable can be seen in the following picture:
With the short end of the LT-Cable connected to the system, and the long end of the LT-Cable connected to the plug-in 5.5 DC transformer, the two ends can meet through the male-female barrel connection. This is seen in the following picture:
