Do I Need a SIM Card for a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus?
No, you do not need a SIM card for a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. All versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus come with a built-in LTE cellular communicator with a SIM card already added. You do not need to add a separate one. You can choose between AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE versions of the panel.
The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus uses its cellular communicator to connect with the Alarm.com Servers. This includes the SIM card needed for connecting with a cellular network. You do not need to add a separate SIM card to get it connected. However, you will need a monitoring plan that includes cellular connectivity. We recommend getting a Gold or Platinum Level Plan (Self or Full) from Alarm Grid. More information on our Gold and Platinum Plans can be found on our alarm monitoring page.
When you sign up for a monitoring plan that includes cellular service, any associated cellular service charges are covered by your monitoring company as part of your plan. The cellular service provider (e.g. AT&T or Verizon) requires compensation for the cellular service they are providing. But this compensation is handled by your alarm company. In turn, you will pay your monitoring company a monitoring fee. Part of this monitoring fee is used to cover the costs charged by the cellular service provider.
Alarm Grid charges the same amount for cellular monitoring service, regardless of whether your IQ Panel 2 Plus connects with the AT&T LTE Network or the Verizon LTE Network. As a result, you will not save any money by choosing one network over the other. For that reason, you should just choose whichever service tends to work more reliably in your area. There are AT&T and Verizon versions of the IQ Panel 2 Plus, so make sure you check the version before buying. Both AT&T and Verizon options are available for purchase from the Alarm Grid website. Also note that you will not be able to "convert" an AT&T IQ Panel 2 Plus to connect with the Verizon Network, or vice-versa. You may want to check coverage maps to determine which network is best in your area.
