Does a Honeywell Lyric Use Lots of Cellular Data?
No, a Honeywell Lyric does not use lots of cellular data. Any cellular data transmission sent from the system to AlarmNet will be very small. The system will never really use too much data. Also, any cellular data charges are covered by your alarm company as part of your monitoring plan.
The Honeywell Lyric Security System will only communicate across a cellular network if a cellular communicator has been installed and activated. This will require an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular service. If you are signing-up for monitoring service from Alarm Grid, then you can choose from any Gold or Platinum Level Plan (Full or Self). We recommend checking out our monitoring page for more information. If you have dual-path communication set up (WIFI and cellular), then the panel will only use cellular communication if the internet is down or unavailable. The same is true for any Honeywell System that uses dual-path connectivity for connecting with the AlarmNet360 servers for Total Connect 2.0 service.
Cellular transmissions made by alarm systems do not require a large amount of data. This is because the data packets associated with security and automation commands are generally very small. It is highly unlikely that an alarm system would ever use as much cellular data as something like a smartphone that is used daily. With that in mind, you will not need to worry about ever using "too much data" with your alarm system. This is true even if you are very frequently operating the system through a cellular-only path.
Even if you somehow did use a large amount of cellular data with your Lyric System, it would not be a concern to you. All cellular data charges are covered by your alarm monitoring company as part of your alarm monitoring plan. The way that this is works is that the cellular service provider (e.g. AT&T, Verizon, etc.) will charge your monitoring company for the cellular service they provide for your system. Part of the cost of your monitoring plan is used to cover any cellular service costs that your system may incur. This is also why cellular monitoring costs more than IP-only monitoring.
