Does Alexa Work with Qolsys?
Yes, Alexa works with Qolsys. However, the integration is not directly through the panel. Instead, Alarm.com serves as a bridge between the security system and Amazon Alexa. The system must be active with Alarm.com to be controlled through Alexa. This requires active monitoring service.
Any Alarm.com Security System can be controlled using Alexa voice commands. This includes Qolsys Systems like the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, the standard Qolsys IQ Panel 2, and the original Qolsys IQ Panel. But these panels can only do this if they are active with the Alarm.com service. An alarm monitoring plan is required to gain access to Alarm.com. Alarm Grid customers receive Alarm.com service with any Gold or Platinum Level monitoring plan. You can check out our monitoring page for more information.
Once the panel is connected with Alarm.com, the user will need to enable the Alarm.com Alexa Skill. This skill can be found within the Skills & Games section of the Alexa App. After enabling the skill, you will need to provide your Alarm.com account information. This is necessary for linking your Alarm.com account with Amazon Alexa. Any system command you make through Amazon Alexa will pass through Alarm.com before being forwarded to your system. As a result, if your system cannot connect with Alarm.com, then you will not be able to control it through Amazon Alexa.
There are many things you can do using Amazon Alexa voice commands with your Qolsys System. Alarm.com allows Alexa to arm/disarm, check current status, control individual Z-Wave devices, and run entire smart scenes. Please note that some of the more secure functions, such as disarming and unlocking Z-Wave door locks, may require you to provide a valid PIN before the command will go through. This is to provide an added layer of security for your system. You may need to enable Alarm.com Secure Commands for Alexa by un-linking and re-linking the Alarm.com Skill within the Alexa App before you will be able to set up a PIN number.
