Does the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Support Partitions?
Yes the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 supports partitions. Although this was once a single-partition system, Software Update 2.3.0 made it possible to set up multiple system partitions. Up to four partitions can individually controlled, and each partition can be assigned its own set of user codes.
Partitioning is a term used to describe the sectioning or the division of an alarm system. In other words, on a partitioned system, not every zone is necessarily affected when a single system partition is armed or disarmed. For instance, if a system is armed, but then partition 1 is disarmed, then the zones associated with partition 2 will continue to remain armed and protected.
For a partitioned alarm system, different access levels are assigned to different user codes. A code's access level determines the authority the code has regarding the control of the system. Depending on the code's access level, the code may be able to control certain partitions, but not others. Likewise, a different user code may receive authority over a completely different set of partitions. These access levels are typically assigned and controlled by the system's Master Code. In most cases, the Master Code is also capable of controlling any partition on the system.
Once Software Update 2.3.0 has been applied, there will be a menu option to enable partitioning. After that, system sensors can be assigned to different partitions as needed. The user can also assign different user codes to control different partitions. If a user code is not assigned authority over a partition, then it will not be able to control the associated sensors. Keep in mind that the system's Master Code will have authority over all system partitions at all times.
Being able to control partitions on a wireless all-in-one panel like the IQ Panel 2 is somewhat unique. The feature is more commonly available on hardwired alarm systems, including many of the Honeywell VISTA Series Panels. In particular, systems designed for commercial use, such as the VISTA 128BPT and the 250BPT, are known for supporting several different partitions. But please be aware that not every VISTA System can support multiple partitions. Additionally, the 2GIG GC3 is another wireless panel that can support multiple partitions.
