How Do I Add a Yale YRD256 to a Honeywell L7000?

You can add a Yale YRD256 to a Honeywell L7000 by putting the system into its Z-Wave inclusion mode and activating the inclusion function on the lock. You should clear the lock from the network before doing this. Only the Z-Wave version of the YRD256 will work with the Honeywell L7000.

There are actually two versions of the Yale YRD256 Lock. There is a Z-Wave Plus version and a version with an iM1 Network Module. The version with an iM1 Network Module is designed for use with Apple HomeKit, and it does not have Z-Wave functionality. This version cannot be used with the Honeywell L7000 since the system does not support Apple HomeKit. However, it can be used with the Honeywell Lyric Controller, as the Lyric is a HomeKit-compatible system.

The Z-Wave Plus version of the YRD256 is the only version that will work with a Honeywell L7000 System. Even then, a Honeywell L5100-ZWAVE module must be added to the L7000. This add-on serves as a Z-Wave controller for the system. Although the L5100-ZWAVE is only a Z-Wave classic controller, the YRD256 Z-Wave version will still work with it, even though it is a Z-Wave Plus device. This is because Z-Wave Plus devices are backwards compatible with Z-Wave classic controllers. However, the YRD256 will only utilize the range and functionality of a classic Z-Wave device. To achieve the max possible range of the YRD256, you must pair it with a Z-Wave Plus controller. This is not possible with the L7000.

Assuming that you have the Z-Wave version of the YRD256, you can pair it with the L7000 by completing the following steps:

1. Clear the lock. All Z-Wave devices should be cleared from the network before you attempt to pair them. This is because they may have been previously paired with a different network for factory testing purposes. Start from the home screen of the L7000 System. Choose Automation > Down Arrow > Tools > Exclude Devices. This will put the panel into exclusion mode. You must then access exclusion mode on the lock. To this, provide the 4 to 8 digit Master PIN Code for the lock that you set up using the Yale App during initial installation. Then press the settings key, which is the picture of the gear. Then press the 7 key, then the settings key again, then the 1 key, then the settings key a third time. This will have the lock enter its Z-Wave exclusion mode. The L7000 System should display that a device has been cleared. Press the return arrow in the upper-right corner of the panel to return to the previous screen. Do not press the Exclude button, as this will simply have the lock re-enter its exclusion mode.

2. Enroll the lock. On the L7000, press the Include Devices button. The panel will enter its Z-Wave inclusion mode. Then initiate the inclusion function on the YRD256 to pair it with the system. To initiate the inclusion function, enter the following command on the lock: 4 to 8 digit Master PIN Code > Settings Key > 7 > Settings Key > 3 > Settings Key. The lock will enter its Z-Wave inclusion mode, and the system should display that the lock has been paired. Press the return arrow in the upper right corner of the system to return to the previous screen. Do not press the Include button, as this will just have the panel re-enter its inclusion mode. It may take a few moments for the lock to appear as "ready".

3. Test the lock. Press the return arrow on the panel once to return to the main Automation Menu. Choose Locks. You should then see the newly enrolled lock listed. You can press the lock to operate the device. Make sure you can lock and unlock from the panel. Please note that you may need to wait for the lock to appear as "ready" before this will work.
