How Do I Change My Alarm System's Code?
You can change your alarm system's code by following the specific process for your security panel. Each security system has unique steps that must be followed to change system codes. It is possible to change the Master Code and any user codes that have been set up with the security system.
Please note that while you can also change the Installer Code for a security system, we do not recommend doing so. This is because leaving the Installer Code at its default does not present any sort of security risk. On many panels, the Installer Code can only be used to disarm the system if it was the code used to arm it in the first place. On some other panels, the Installer Code can never arm or disarm the system. If you were to forget or lose your Installer Code, it may be very difficult for you to access system programming later.
Below is the process for changing codes on several types of security systems:
2GIG GC2 or 2GIG GC2e: From the home screen, go to Security > Menu > Toolbox > enter in the Master Code (default is 1111) > User Management. Locate the code you want to change, using the arrows on the right side of the screen if necessary. Click on the code you want to change. Then select the "Change Pin" option. You will be prompted to enter in a new code. Then you must confirm the code by entering it again. The system will confirm that the code was changed. You can then hit the picture of the green house on the front of the system to return to the home screen.
2GIG GC3 or 2GIG GC3e: Select "System Settings" in the bottom-right corner of the home screen. Enter in the Master Code (the default is 1111). Select Users. Locate the code you want to change. Then click on the pencil icon that is next to the "Code" field. You will be prompted to enter in a new code. Then you must confirm the code by entering it again. You can then hit the back arrow on the left side of the screen twice to return to the home screen.
Qolsys IQ Panel 2 and IQ Panel 2 Plus: From the home screen, hit the small grey bar at the top of the screen. Then select Settings, followed by Advanced Settings. Then enter in the system's Master Code (the default is 1234). Then select User Management. Hit the pencil icon next to the code you want to change. This will be under the Edit column. Enter in the new code and confirm it. Then select save at the bottom. The system will confirm the change. You can then select the picture of the house at the bottom of the screen to return to the home screen.
Honeywell LYNX Touch: From the home screen of the system, go to Security > More > Tools > enter in the Master Code (the default is 1234) > Users. Locate the code you want to change, and then click on it to highlight that code. Then select the Edit button in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Then choose the User Code field. Enter in the desired 4-digit code. Then press "Done" in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Then select "Save" in the bottom-right corner of the screen. You can then hit the picture of the green house on the front of the panel below the touchscreen to return to the home page.
Honeywell Lyric Controller: From the home screen of the system, go to Security > Tools > enter in the Master Code (the default is 1234) > Users. You can then hit the picture of the green house on the bottom front of the panel to return to the home screen.
Honeywell VISTA Panel: With the system disarmed, enter in the following command: [Master Code] + [8] + [2-digit User Number (03 - 49)] + [Desired 4-Digit Code]. The panel will beep to confirm that the code was changed. The default Master Code for a Honeywell Vista is 1234. Each code on a VISTA is assigned to a different user number. The Installer Code is always assigned to user number 01. The Master Code is always assigned to user number 02.
When changing the Master Code, User Number 02, you will be required to enter the new code twice to confirm it, so the process is slightly different for this code as opposed to users 03 and higher. The syntax is: [Current Master Code] + [8] + [02] + [New 4-digit Code] + [Re-enter New 4-digit Code].
