How Do I Change the Master Code On a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 or IQ Panel 2 Plus?

You can change the Master Code on a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 or IQ Panel 2 Plus by accessing the system's User Management Menu. This can be done using the system's Installer Code, Dealer Code, or an existing Master Code. Multiple codes with "Master" level authority can be assigned to the panel.

A Master Code on a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 can arm and disarm the system, and it can access the Advanced Settings Menu for Master Users. If desired, multiple codes with Master authority can be added to the panel. But there will always be one "hard-coded" Master Code for the system assigned to ID Slot 1. This "hard-coded" Master Code is also known as the system Admin Code. Other hard-coded codes include the Duress Code (ID Slot 240), the Installer Code (ID Slot 241), and the Dealer Code (ID Slot 242). Hard-coded codes can never be deleted, only changed.

In order to change user codes, including the "Admin" Master Code or any other code with Master authority, you must access the User Management Menu for the system. This can be accomplished using any code with Master authority. You can also access the menu using the system's Installer Code or Dealer Code. The Dealer Code can change any code on the panel. The Installer Code can change any code except for the Dealer Code. A Master-level code, such as the hard-coded Admin Code or any other added Master Code cannot change the Installer Code or Dealer Code. The hard-coded Admin Code can change itself and any other secondary code, including the Duress code and any secondary Master Code. A secondary Master can change itself and any other standard User code, but not the Admin code, and not any other Master Code.

It is strongly recommended that you change the Admin Master Code from its default of 1234. Anyone with access to this code will be able to freely control the system. The code 1234 is very easy for others to guess, and it represents a security risk. Instead, change the code to something that you will easily remember, but others will have a difficult time guessing. Any additional Master-level codes added to the system should also be difficult for others to guess. Keeping the Installer and Dealer Codes at their respective defaults (1111 & 2222) is okay, as they can neither arm nor disarm the system.

Complete the following steps to access User Management and change a Master Code on a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 or IQ Panel 2 Plus:

1. Access User Management. Start from the main screen of the IQ Panel 2. Click on the small grey bar at the top of the screen. Choose Settings > Advanced Settings > enter the Installer Code, Dealer Code, or an existing Master Code (defaults are 1111, 2222, and 1234, respectively) > User Management. You will access the User Management Menu.

2. Change the code. Locate the Master Code you want to change. You will know that a code is a Master Code, because it will have "Master" listed as its "Type". If you are logged in as the Admin user, you will have access to see and change your own code as well as any secondary codes, including secondary Master Codes. If you are using a Master Code, but not the system Admin, you will only have access to your own Master Code, and any other secondary codes that exist on the system. Once you have found the appropriate code to change, click on the pencil icon for that code slot on the right side of the screen. You will then access the sub-menu for that code.

Within the sub-menu, click on the User Code field to begin editing the code. Depending on the system settings, codes can be either four (4) or six (6) digits. Click the green confirm button in the bottom-right corner of the on-screen keypad once the desired code is entered. Then confirm the same code in the "Confirm User Code" field.

Once both the User Code and Confirm User Code fields match with the same desired code, click the green confirm button in the bottom-right corner, followed by the hide keypad button, which is also in the bottom-right corner. Then press the "Save" button to save the changes. The code will be changed.

3. Return to main menu. Press the picture of the house at the bottom of the screen. This will take you back to the home screen for the IQ Panel 2.
