How Do I Disarm My Alarm System?
You can disarm your alarm system by following the specific disarming process for your security panel. The process will vary slightly between wireless alarm systems and wired Vista systems. All systems will require you to know the Master Code or a user code in order to disarm the panel.
All security panels must have a Master Code that is programmed with the system. We recommend changing this code, as leaving the Master Code at its default represents a major security risk. Nevertheless, the default Master Codes for various security systems are as follows:
- Honeywell Systems: 1234
- 2GIG Systems: 1111
- Qolsys Systems: 1234
In addition to the Master Code, a security system can have multiple user codes. In order to disarm the system, the Master Code or a valid user code must be entered. The difference between the Master Code and a user code is explained here.
There are also Installer Codes and guest codes. However, these codes can only disarm the system if they were used to arm the system in the first place. For the purpose of this FAQ, we will assume that the Master Code was used when arming the system. This means that the Installer Code or a guest code will not be able to disarm the system.
The process for disarming a security system varies depending upon whether it is a wireless system with a touchscreen or wired Vista panel with a keypad. Both of the processes are outlined below.
Wireless Touchscreen Systems
All wireless Honeywell, 2GIG and Qolsys panels can be disarmed in a similar manner. When the system is armed, there will be a button on the touchscreen labeled "Disarm". Click on this button. You will then be prompted to enter in a code. Enter in the Master Code or a valid user code. The system will disarm.
Note: If you are using a Qolsys panel, you will click on the yellow or red "Armed" button rather than a "Disarm" button.
Wired Vista System
A wired Honeywell Vista System can be disarmed by entering in one of the following commands into the keypad:
[Master Code] + [1]
[User Code] + [1]
The keypad will then confirm the disarm.
